There remains little to split the leading contenders in the 2026 BMW F 900 R Cup as Nikki Coates takes a slender advantage into the second half of the season.
With four of the season’s nine events in the bag, Coates’ two wins and three podiums from four Main Race starts has seen him establish his coveted spot at the head of the overall standings.
However, it remains remarkably closely matched behind the 2025 BMW F 900 R Cup runner-up with just 18 points covering the top six riders.
With Coates also scoring well for having also won three of his four Heats – which precede the Main Race – the LDC BMW by Frimley Pits Racing rider has established a slender but crucial advantage over the competition.
His closest competition stems from Kieran Smith (GP Titan Tech by Bathams) and Christian Smith (SCH Motoprep by Bathams), who are each just eight points in arrears, though last year’s champion Barry Burrell (Halliwell Jones) and Josh Corner (Chasin the Racin Podcast) are also both just 14 points shy of the top spot.
Five rounds of the 2026 BMW F 900 R Cup season remain at Oulton Park, Thruxton, Cadwell Park, Assen (Netherlands) and at Brands Hatch.
The BMW F 900 R Cup breaks the mould of most motorcycle racing series by utilising a naked roadster platform as the base for it machinery. Indeed, while fully faired sportbikes are commonplace on the racetrack, sport-inspired roadsters are arguably more relevant among the motorcycle-buying public.
As such, the BMW F 900 R Cup with boasts vast grids and thrills with its elbow-to-elbow action is a veritable showcase for how capable roadsters can also be in a racing environment.
