Mazda has always occupied a distinctive corner of the automotive landscape: a manufacturer that places driving pleasure at the centre of every engineering decision. The Mazda CX-60 is the fullest expression of that philosophy yet - a large, premium SUV built on a new rear-wheel-drive-biased platform, with a level of refinement that challenges far more expensive cars.
It's available in two powertrain configurations: the e-Skyactiv PHEV, Mazda's first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, and the e-Skyactiv D - an advanced mild hybrid diesel available with either 200ps rear-wheel drive or 254ps all-wheel drive AWD. Both routes arrive with Mazda's signature Jinba Ittai driving philosophy: the idea that car and driver should feel like one.
The Kodo: Soul of Motion design philosophy creates a bold, sculptural exterior, unmistakably Mazda - this leads into a cabin defined by Japanese craftsmanship and meticulous material selection. This is not a family SUV that trades refinement for practicality; it's one that genuinely delivers both. Available on the Motability Scheme, and backed by a six-year manufacturer's warranty, the CX-60 is as reassuring to own as it is to drive.
Open the door of the Mazda CX-60 and the quality of the interior immediately sets the tone. The cabin is structured around the driver, with every control positioned to minimise distraction and maximise driving pleasure. A 12.3-inch colour central display and a matching digital instrument cluster sit at eye level, flanking a head-up display that projects navigation and speed onto the windscreen.
The Mazda Connect infotainment system brings wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto as standard across the range, alongside satellite navigation with European mapping and seven years of free map updates. A Multimedia Commander dial between the front seats keeps your eyes on the road, while USB-C ports front and rear cover day-to-day charging needs.
Trim choice shapes the character of the interior considerably. The Exclusive-Line opens with black leather seats, heated seats, and dual-zone climate control. Moving through the range, Homura and Homura Plus add black Nappa leather, ventilated seats, ambient interior lighting, and the 12-speaker Bose premium sound system. Takumi and Takumi Plus take refinement further still with white Nappa leather, White Maple wood interior accents, and dashboard panels trimmed in woven fabric with Kakenui stitching, highlighting exceptional craftsmanship.
Boot space is generous at 570 litres in five-seat configuration, extending to 1,726 litres with the 40:20:40 split rear seats folded. A hands-free power liftgate - operated with a swipe of the foot - handles loading when your hands are full.
The Mazda CX-60's proportions tell you something important before you've even seen the badge. The long bonnet, short overhangs, and wide rear haunches are the hallmarks of a rear-wheel drive platform - unusual in this segment, and a deliberate statement of intent from Mazda's engineers.
The Kodo design is executed with precision: a single-arc body line runs from the front wheel arch to the rear, creating movement and tension in the bodywork without resorting to unnecessary creases. LED headlights with signature daytime running lights frame a confident front end, while adaptive LED headlights on Homura Plus and Takumi Plus grades add four distinct lighting modes - including a glare-free high beam that adjusts around oncoming traffic.
The CX-60 is available in nine exterior colours, including the award-winning Soul Red Crystal, the dramatic Machine Grey, the warm Zircon Sand, and Deep Crystal Blue. Wheel size steps from 18-inch grey alloys on Exclusive-Line to 20-inch designs - black on Homura, and Black Diamond Cut on Takumi - that suit the car's character at each trim level.
The Mazda CX-60 range spans five grades: Exclusive-Line, Homura, Homura Plus, Takumi, and Takumi Plus. The Homura line takes a sporty character with gloss black exterior detailing, while Takumi focuses on craftsmanship and light interior tones. Both lines culminate in their respective Plus variants, which add the full suite of driver assistance technology as standard.
The table below covers the key features across the range, cross-referenced with Vertu's standard filtration criteria.

The Mazda CX-60 is available with two distinct powertrain technologies, each engineered around Mazda's 'right-sizing' principle - using larger displacement to achieve greater efficiency, not just more power.
The e-Skyactiv PHEV pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 129kW electric motor and a 17.8kWh lithium-ion battery. Total power output is 327ps, with up to 39.77 miles of all-electric range (WLTP) producing zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving. Use electricity for the daily commute and the CX-60 returns a WLTP weighted combined fuel consumption of 201.8mpg - with CO₂ from just 32g/km, qualifying for just 10% BIK tax in 2026/27.
The e-Skyactiv D diesel is available in 200ps rear-wheel drive or 254ps all-wheel drive guise. Both are in-line six engines featuring Distribution-Controlled Partially Premixed Compression Ignition (DCPCI) technology - advanced combustion technology that makes the e-Skyactiv D one of the cleanest diesel engines currently available. A 48v Mazda M Hybrid Boost system recaptures braking energy to reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. The 254ps AWD variant produces 550Nm of torque, pulls to 136mph, and - with the right towbar - can haul up to 2,500kg.
The Mi-Drive drive modes system adjusts vehicle behaviour across Normal, Sport, Off-Road, and Towing modes (AWD), with the PHEV adding an EV mode for pure-electric driving. An 8-speed Mazda automatic transmission is fitted throughout, replacing the torque converter with a clutch for a direct, responsive shift feel.
