At Vertu, we are proud supporters of the Motability Scheme, which offers affordable, worry-free motoring through an all-inclusive leasing package. It helps disabled people, their families, and their carers stay mobile and independent.
This step-by-step guide covers everything you need to know about leasing through the Motability Scheme with Vertu. From what the Motability Scheme is to how you order your car, we walk you through every stage.
What Is the Motability Scheme?
The Motability Scheme gives disabled people, their families, and their carers an easy way to lease a brand-new car. You exchange all or part of your mobility allowance, and the running costs are taken care of.
The all-inclusive package covers servicing, repairs, vehicle tax, and insurance for up to three named drivers. You also receive RAC Priority One breakdown cover, plus tyre and windscreen replacement cover.
As part of one of the largest automotive retailer groups in the UK, we offer a wide choice of Motability Scheme cars from industry-leading manufacturers, so you can find the right fit for your needs.
Many cars come with optional adaptations, and the Motability Scheme offers around 500 in total. These include driving aids, plus storage and accessibility features, and many are fitted at no extra cost.
How Does the Motability Scheme Work?
You lease your car using all or part of your mobility allowance, and you have nothing to arrange. Your allowance provider pays the Motability Scheme directly, so payments are simple and predictable.
Every three years, you can renew your agreement and choose a new car. If a higher-spec model catches your eye, you can pay a one-off Advance Payment to cover the difference. Please note, the Advance Payment is non-refundable.
Before you choose, it helps to check whether you qualify.
Am I Eligible for the Motability Scheme?
You could join the Motability Scheme if you receive one of the qualifying mobility allowances below and have at least 12 months of your award remaining.
Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
Parents and carers can also apply on behalf of a child aged three or over who receives the Higher Rate Mobility Component of DLA.
If you are still unsure, our friendly Motability Scheme specialists are always happy to help. Enquire online, call us, or book an appointment at your local dealership, whichever suits you best.
To complete your application, you need your award notice or letter of entitlement, proof of address, your driving licence, and your grant letter if applicable.
Choose Your Motability Scheme Car
Now for the fun part, choosing your car. We stock a wide range of Motability Scheme cars, and our specialists offer expert advice to help you pick the right one.
You can choose from popular manufacturers including Ford, Vauxhall, Nissan, Peugeot, Kia, and Hyundai. Many models offer optional adaptations at no extra cost.
Prefer to go electric? Our range of electric Motability Scheme cars delivers zero tailpipe emissions and low running costs, and your first battery electric vehicle can include a home charge point at no extra cost.
You do not need to be the driver. You can nominate a carer or family member as one of up to three named drivers, so they can drive the car for you.
Speak With Our Motability Scheme Specialists
Once you have chosen your car, you might want to pre-book a test drive or talk through your options. Our dedicated Motability Scheme specialists are here to help with your application.

Order Your Motability Scheme Car
After you make your decision, a specialist works with you to finalise your order and request any adaptations you need.
Lead times vary by make and model, so we keep you updated throughout. We then arrange a suitable date and time for you to collect your car or have it delivered.

Once your date is confirmed, you can collect your new car from your local Vertu dealership or have it delivered to your door. Either way, our team makes sure everything is ready for you.
What Does a Motability Scheme Lease Include?
The Motability Scheme is an all-inclusive package, so nearly every running cost is covered. Your lease includes:
Insurance for up to three named drivers
Servicing and repairs
Vehicle tax
RAC Priority One breakdown cover
Tyre and windscreen replacement cover
A 30,000-mile allowance over three years, or 50,000 miles over five years for a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV)
Our technicians train to manufacturer standards and use the latest tools in our modern workshops. Even after your agreement starts, our team stays on hand for any servicing or aftercare you need.
When Can I Renew My Motability Scheme Car?
Motability Scheme agreements usually run for three years. After that, you can renew and choose a new car, provided you still meet the eligibility criteria.
When your time comes to renew, Vertu is ready to help you find your next car.
