First Glimpse at Daring Range Rover GT Electric SUV

Land Rover has offered up a first glimpse at its forthcoming all-electric large SUV, the Range Rover GT, which is destined to become the fifth model in the British firm’s line-up.

The first zero emission Range Rover-badged model that Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has developed from the ground up, the GT will sit above the Velar and has been designed with a specific view to providing a tranquil driving experience.

Just a couple of exterior images have been shared by the manufacturer and it shows the GT, while unmistakably a Range Rover, gets a dramatic looking variation of the familiar two-box SUV form.

Indeed, the GT adopts more of a ‘fastback’ look in-keeping with models as the Mercedes EQC with a longer descending rear quarter that stretches beyond the rear wheelarches and is no doubt primed to improve aerodynamic efficiency.

While the unusual snake-skin style livery disguises many of the finer details, the Range Rover GT also reveals a new slender headlight arrangement, though the brand’s signature clamshell bonnet and broad grille will almost certainly remain.

Unusually, Range Rover has opted to reveal more details about the interior design than the exterior, a sign that this is where the firm has been focusing its attention to promote the GT as an ultra-luxurious electric model.

Imagery shows the GT will adopt a fresh design direction for the firm, which is globally recognised for its lavishly appointed interiors.

The GT will get a new minimalist look comprising 13-inch central screen above a thick central console, while the digital dials are covered by a letterbox-style screen that floats above the ‘squircle’-shaped steering wheel and a heads-up display.

The GT will be available as either a five-seater or a four-seater, with the latter getting a central arm rest that folds down and contains a screen that controls heating, cooling and rear climate.

Described as a ‘warm, reductive space’, the interior is designed to emphasise the refined qualities of an electric vehicle, creating a luxurious, tranquil environment symptomatic of a GT, or Grand Tourer.

Range Rover has also revealed that the GT will be available as a BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) from launch, but the range will expand to include an HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) variant later in its lifecycle.

More details will be revealed nearer its official unveiling later in the year.
