Introducing The New Audi E-Tron S and E-Tron S Sportback

Audi’s popular all-electric SUV and coupe-SUV have now gained Sport variant performance models, with both to be powered by three electric motors.

Audi’s expanding the E-Tron EV range with the E-Tron S and E-Tron S Sportback, which have now been officially confirmed ahead of UK orders opening later this summer.

The upcoming range-topping S variants are claimed to be the first volume-production cars to use three electric motors. Two are mounted on the rear axle of the EV and one sits at the front.

The result is 496bhp and a stout 718lb ft of torque, although these peak figures will only be available for 8 second boost periods. Packing a punch, the new Audi EVs will be able to hit 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds and have a top speed of 130mph.

The trio of motors don’t just improve straight-line pace but are also used to provide an electric torque-vectoring function. In normal driving modes, just the rear motors operate, with torque sent to each wheel through a single-speed transmission.

In dynamic driving modes or when full power is requested, the front motor activates. It can also predictively activate when slip is detected and decelerate the inside front wheel on a bend to prevent traction losses.

For thrill seekers, Audi have claimed that the S models will be capable of ‘controlled drifts’, due to a more rear-biased power delivery than the standard E-Tron.

The E-tron S and E-tron S Sportback will be powered by a 95kWh battery, with respective claimed ranges of 223 miles and 226 miles on the WLTP cycle.

The wheel-arch extensions found on the upcoming E-Tron S and S Sportback add 5cm to the width of both cars, while their unique front and rear bumpers aim to boost the sporty look.

The silver detailing and aluminium mirrors, along with 21-inch or 22-inch wheel options, mark the models out as the S variants.

The interior of the new S models offers Electrically Adjustable Sports Seats, trimmed in fine Nappa Leather with embroidered stitching, with the option of Carbon Trim Inserts throughout.

Customers who place an order before the end of this year, for either new S model, will benefit from a complimentary 12-month subscription to Audi’s bespoke charging service.

This subscription service links 18 different charge point providers with one RFID payment card and one monthly invoice for all transactions. This amounts to a total of £150 worth of electricity to be provided.

As well as this, Audi will also provide and install a free 7kW home wallbox for these initial E-Tron S and S Sportback customers.

The new Audi E-Tron S and E-Tron S Sportback won’t be reaching our showrooms until late this year, possibly early 2021 depending on production. However, first orders are set to open later this summer.

We will keep you in the loop with updates, as and when we can.
