Kia To Launch Seven Bespoke Electric Cars By 2027

Kia Motors has set its sights on becoming the leading electric vehicle brand in the UK, by accelerating their business transformation and responding to the fast-growing global demand for a diverse range of more efficient cars.

Kia has shared a glimpse of its global electric vehicle (EV) business strategy, revealing an early sketch of several of the brand’s future dedicated Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs).

The EV strategy was announced by Kia President and CEO Ho Sung Song, during an event at Kia’s Hwasung plant in Korea. The brand plan to launch a varied range of dedicated BEVs and partner with EV charging companies worldwide.

Ho Sung Song noted that: ‘Kia has sold more than 100,000 BEVs worldwide since the introduction of our first mass-produced BEV in 2011, the Kia Ray EV. Since then, we have started to introduce a range of new BEVs for global markets and announced plans to accelerate this process in the years ahead.

‘By refocusing our business on electrification, we are aiming for BEVs to account for 25% of our total worldwide sales by 2029.’

Under their ‘Plan S’ strategy, first revealed at the start of this year, Kia will expand its BEV line-up to 11 models by 2025. Over the same period, Kia is aiming for BEVs to account for 20% of the brand’s total vehicle sales in advanced markets, including Korea, North America and Europe.

The first of the 7 BEVs planned by 2027 is code-named CV, and will be launched in 2021 as Kia’s first dedicated BEV, destined for many regions across the globe.

Kia plan to meet a diverse range of customer needs with their upcoming electric vehicles, so that there’s something for everyone. Kia plans to respond to market demands by supplying EVs dedicated to urban living, high-mileage driving and performance driving, respectively.

Also, by adapting their new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the brand will be able to offer vehicles with best-in-class interior spaciousness too.

In addition to introducing new EVs to the market, Kia is also exploring the creation of subscription services to offer a diversified buying option for customers, as well as EV battery leasing and rental programs, and other ‘second-life’ battery-related businesses.

In terms of electric vehicle infrastructure, Kia is working towards establishing more than 2,400 EV chargers in Europe and around 500 in North America, partnering with various networks to ensure enough charging stations are available, ready to meet the growing plug-in market demand.

Kia’s current fully electric vehicles, the e-Niro and the Soul, are consistently increasing in popularity. Offering intelligent technology and fantastic comfort, along with outstanding performance and incredible efficiency, they make ideal first electric cars.
