Nissan’s return to the city car A-segment has been confirmed with the news that the 2027 Nissan PIXO will be revealed later this month.
Marking the comeback for a nameplate seen on Nissan’s last city car effort, sold between 2009 and 2013, this time around the PIXO will be a compact electric car.
Due to be unveiled on 23 September, the PIXO will be the third EV spun off from the same platform that underpins the already revealed Renault Twingo and Dacia Spring.
With both Renault and Dacia adopting separate design directions to help differentiate them, it is expected the PIXO will also showcase a style more reminiscent of the Nissan EV line-up that currently comprises the Nissan MICRA, Nissan LEAF and Nissan ARIYA.
While no teaser images of the PIXO itself have been released, a preview of the retro-inspired pixelated badging is likely to give some indication as to the vibe of the final product.
Described as ‘small in size, yet big in personality’, the PIXO – regardless of the final design – is expected to share the same running gear, including the 27.5kWh battery that produces 80bhp and returns around 160-miles of range in the Twingo and Spring.
Prices are set to comfortably undercut the cheapest EV in Nissan’s current range – the MICRA – with some estimates suggesting a sub-£20,000 price tag, even before further reductions if it is eligible for the UK’s Electric Car Grant (ECG).
That would make it one of the UK’s cheapest cars and allow it to go head-to-head with the likes of the BYD Dolphin Surf and Leapmotor T03, not to mention the sister Twingo and Spring.
