Plymouth Argyle secured the perfect result ahead of a big FA Cup replay with Leeds United with a well-earned victory on the road against Swansea.

The Vertu Motors-backed side made the trip to South Wales chasing a first win away from home in the EFL Championship this season but with confidence high after an unbeaten start to life under new manager Ian Foster.

Ben Cabango missed a glorious chance to give Swansea the lead when he smashed a shot over the bar from close range early on before ex-Swansea player Morgan Whittaker sent in a dipping shot that Carl Rushworth was forced to tip over the bar.

However, from the resulting corner, Adam Forshaw played the ball across to Whittaker and he side-footed a shot into the net to give Argyle the lead – showing why the in-form star is attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Italian giants Lazio.

Swansea had chances to level the game but found Connor Hazard in inspired form in the Argyle goal, with a point-blank save from Jerry Yates being particularly impressive when it appeared easier for the forward to score.

The home side had more chances after the break, with Hazard somehow keeping the ball out when Brendon Galloway almost put through his own net and then making a smart stop right at the death to prevent Charlie Patino from grabbing the equaliser.

The victory was the first for Plymouth away from home at this level since 2010, and means the Pilgrims have moved up to 15th in the table – just six points away from the top ten.

Leeds now arrive at Home Park for the FA Cup replay on Tuesday evening, which will be live on BBC1, before a long trip to Sunderland at the weekend for a Vertu Motors derby.
