Points Shared For Nottinghamshire After Final Day Washout

Nottinghamshire secured a first draw of the County Championship season after a final day washout ended any chances of a positive result against Worcestershire.

Nottinghamshire were keen to bounce back from defeat to Essex in the first game of the campaign and overcame the early loss of both Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett to build a solid lead on the opening day – led by a fine 105 from Joe Clarke.

Eventually bowled out for 399 on the second day after Lyndon James fell just four short of a century, Notts were in control of proceedings when Calvin Harrison removed Adam Hose, Rob Jones and Jason Holder to leave Worcestershire on 220-6 – still 179 runs behind with only four first innings wickets in hand.

The game took a turn on the third day, starting in the morning as Worcestershire’s tail put up dogged resistance led by Nathan Smith.

The all-rounder was able to make 58 whilst Joe Leach added 48 batting at number ten as the visitors were able to add a further 135 to their overnight total, leaving Notts with a lead of just 44.

Hameed and Duckett put on a stand of 81 for the opening wicket as Notts headed out to bat again but after Hameed fell for 40 and Duckett was dismissed for 63, Notts would slip from 125-2 to 157-7 as Smith followed up his batting performance with 4-29.

That meant Nottinghamshire held a lead of just under 200 going into the final day with three wickets in hand, but with rain hitting Trent Bridge, no play would be possible and the match was abandoned as a draw.

Nottinghamshire took 14 points from the game to remain tenth in the table, a point behind Durham.
