New BYD Sealion 5 Engines and Performance
The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i's Super Hybrid with DM technology combines a 1.5-litre Xiaoyun petrol engine with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. With a thermal efficiency of 43.06 per cent, the petrol engine is among the most efficient of any car in series production today.
In most driving conditions, the Sealion 5 behaves like a pure EV: the electric motor drives the wheels, while the petrol engine extends the journey when required. When full performance is needed, the system switches to Parallel mode, combining both power sources for confident acceleration.
The Comfort trim offers a WLTP pure-electric range of 38.5 miles ? enough for most daily commutes without a drop of petrol. The Design's larger Blade Battery extends this to 53.4 miles, with a combined range of up to 631 miles on a full charge and a full tank.
