Overview of the Kia EV2

The Kia EV2 answers a question small electric cars usually dodge: can a car this compact still go the distance? At 4,060mm it takes up roughly the road space of a supermini, yet the long-range version covers up to 275 miles on a single charge (WLTP). The footprint that makes it easy to park does not tie you to short hops.

That range comes from a choice of two batteries. A 42.2kWh standard-range pack sits in the launch First Edition, while a 61.0kWh long-range battery powers the Air, GT-Line and GT-Line S. Both are pure battery electric vehicles (EVs) with front-wheel drive, five seats and Kia's 400V charging architecture underneath.

That engineering makes the EV2 Kia's smallest EV, the newest and most city-focused car in the wider Kia electric range. The EV2 slots in below the EV3 as a compact electric SUV. It brings the triple-screen cabin, full driver-assistance suite and rapid charging of larger Kia models down to a size built for tight streets.

Four trims give most driveways and budgets a version that fits. Air is the well-equipped entry point on the long-range battery, First Edition adds launch-specific kit on the standard-range pack, GT-Line brings sportier 19-inch styling, and GT-Line S is the flagship. A city driver whose weekly mileage rarely troubles a full battery will find the Air more than enough. Anyone who wants every comfort and safety feature Kia offers on the EV2 will gravitate to the GT-Line S.

New Kia EV2 Interior

Inside, the EV2 reads far bigger than its exterior suggests. Kia builds the cabin around three linked screens: a 12.3-inch central touchscreen for navigation and media, a 12.3-inch driver display, and a 5.3-inch climate panel between them. Together they form one continuous digital dashboard rather than three separate units competing for your attention.

That continuity carries through to how you actually operate the car. Physical buttons for temperature and fan speed sit below the touchscreen, so the settings you reach for most on a cold morning stay under your fingertips rather than buried in a menu. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connect a phone without a cable across every trim, and a wireless charging pad keeps it topped up on First Edition, GT-Line and GT-Line S.

Comfort climbs steadily as you move up the range. Heated front seats feature throughout, First Edition, GT-Line and GT-Line S gain electric driver's seat adjustment, and the GT-Line S adds ventilated front seats plus a memory function. Audio follows a similar split, with a six-speaker system on Air and GT-Line and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon setup on First Edition and GT-Line S. The upgrade is all the more rewarding when the electric drivetrain adds almost no noise of its own.

Practicality is where the small EV2 quietly overdelivers. The boot holds 362 litres with the seats upright and 1,201 litres with the 60:40 split rear seats folded, and a false floor keeps the load lip low and the space flexible. Some versions add a small front boot of around 15 litres, a natural home for the charging cables so they never clutter the main load bay.

New Kia EV2 Exterior

Kia gave the EV2 a distinctive shape all of its own. An upright front, wide stance and squared-off surfaces come from the brand's Opposites United design language, while vertical daytime running lights and Kia's Star Map light signature mark it out after dark. Pronounced wheel-arch cladding grounds the look, so a small car still carries real presence on the road.

That presence shifts with the trim you choose. Air rides on 16-inch alloys, First Edition steps up to a distinctive 18-inch design, and GT-Line and GT-Line S wear high-impact 19-inch wheels with GT-Line styling. Higher trims also gain automatic flush door handles, gloss-black detailing and privacy glass, and the GT-Line S alone offers a tilting and sliding front sunroof for an airier cabin.

The dimensions stay tight whichever version you pick. Every EV2 measures 1,800mm wide with a 2,565mm wheelbase, at 4,060mm long on Air and First Edition and 4,065mm on the GT-Line versions, standing between 1,575mm and 1,585mm tall. Those numbers keep it easy to thread through city traffic and slot into on-street bays that larger electric SUVs simply cannot use.

Colour choice tracks the trim as well. Fusion White comes as standard on Air, GT-Line and GT-Line S, with premium options spanning Magma Red, Moonlight Mint, Frost Blue, Vanilla Blossom, Phantom Black, Dark Penta Metal and Wolf Grey. Wolf Grey arguably suits the EV2 best, its cool, muted tone flattering the boxy surfaces and sharpening the contrast against the black cladding in a way the paler shades soften.

New Kia EV2 Engines and Performance

Every Kia EV2 is front-wheel drive with a single-speed automatic, so the meaningful differences come down to which battery you choose and the range and charging that follow. The table below brings the powertrain, performance, range and charging figures together by trim.

All range, efficiency and charging figures are manufacturer WLTP figures. Real-world range varies with driving style, speed, weather and load.

The numbers reward a closer look. The launch First Edition uses the smaller 42.2kWh battery yet produces the most power at 144bhp, which makes it the quickest EV2 to 62mph at 8.7 seconds. The 61.0kWh trims trade a little of that pace for distance, and the Air stretches furthest at up to 275 miles combined. That is enough for a driver covering 40 to 50 miles a day to go most of a week between charges.

Charging keeps that convenience going on longer trips. On a suitable rapid DC charger the EV2 tops up from 10 to 80% in around 29 to 30 minutes, so a coffee stop covers a meaningful chunk of range. At home on an 11kW wall box a full 10 to 100% charge takes 4h 5m on the standard-range battery and 5h 35m on the long-range pack, ready overnight. Every version delivers zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving.
