The new Volkswagen Tiguan gives you three powertrains in one mid-size SUV: a 1.5 eTSI petrol mild hybrid, a 2.0 TDI diesel, and a 272PS eHybrid flagship. Every version runs through a DSG automatic as standard, with Front Assist autonomous emergency braking and up to 652 litres of boot space on the petrol and diesel. The eHybrid adds a 19.7kWh battery and 40kW DC fast charging for up to 75 miles of WLTP electric range. Whether you're running the eHybrid on electric power for the daily commute or covering motorway miles in the diesel, there's a Tiguan built around how you actually drive.

Most mid-size SUVs pick a hybrid strategy and commit to it. The Volkswagen Tiguan lineup runs all three: a 1.5 eTSI petrol mild hybrid, a 2.0 TDI diesel, and a 1.5 TSI eHybrid plug-in with up to 75 miles of WLTP electric range.
That plug-in sits at the heart of what the current VW Tiguan car does differently. Its 19.7kWh battery and 40kW DC charging capability are details usually reserved for battery electric cars. That lets you cover an everyday commute on electric power alone and top up in 26 minutes rather than overnight, with zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving in electric mode. At the top of the hybrid ladder, a 272PS version runs from 0 to 62mph in 7.1 seconds, with a 134mph top speed.
Five trims cover the range: Life, Match, Style, R-Line, and Black Edition. Style is reserved for eHybrid buyers, and the 272PS flagship engine is limited to R-Line and Black Edition. Every version runs through a DSG automatic gearbox, 7-speed on petrol and diesel, 6-speed on the eHybrid, with front-wheel drive across the current order range. The Volkswagen Tiguan is a five-seat SUV; if you need a seven-seater, Volkswagen's larger Tayron covers that brief.

Vertu's Volkswagen dealerships also hold existing stock of the 2.0 TSI 4Motion R-Line, a 265PS all-wheel-drive petrol that's no longer in production but still available while supplies last. A limited number of Tiguan Black Edition 4Motion examples may also appear in group stock. Choose the diesel for long motorway miles, a petrol for the lightest footprint on the forecourt, or the eHybrid if you can charge at home and want electric running on most of your week.
Whichever powertrain you choose, the Tiguan presents the same cabin. A 12.9" infotainment display and digital driver cluster come as standard across Life, Match, Style, and R-Line, with the 15" infotainment display stepping up on Black Edition and offered as an option on Style. A head-up display projects speed and navigation into the driver's eyeline on Black Edition.
Standard kit across every trim includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Keyless Entry central locking, inductive wireless smartphone charging, 3-zone climate control, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through App-Connect. That's a strong equipment baseline for the entry Life trim before any trim upgrades.
The seats follow the same pattern. Life gets fabric upholstery with power lumbar adjustment, Match adds heated front seats and a heated multi-function steering wheel, and Style brings ArtVelours trim with a massage function and sports comfort seats. R-Line swaps all that for 'Greyson' velour sports seats with ArtVelours bolsters, a heated leather sports steering wheel with shift paddles, and brushed stainless steel pedals.
Space is one of the Tiguan's strongest cards. The boot stretches to 652 litres on petrol and diesel cars with the rear seats slid forward, rising to 1,650 litres with them folded. The eHybrid gives up some of that to its 19.7kWh battery, offering around 490 litres standard and up to 1,486 litres with the seats down. Front headroom runs to 1,055mm and interior width to 1,501mm, so taller drivers won't be lifting their heads to clear the roofline.
A few touches finish the cabin. 30-colour ambient lighting fits Match and Style, a panoramic sunroof is available across the range, and an optional Harman Kardon sound system handles playback.
The modern cabin pairs with equally fresh exterior design. Volkswagen's current design language gives the Tiguan a cleaner, more horizontal front end than its predecessor. LED headlamps are standard across the range, with IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlamps fitted to Black Edition. The matrix system adds a poor-weather light, cornering light and entry-and-exit lighting that follows you to and from the car.
Light signatures carry around to the back. Match, Style, and R-Line get 3D LED tail lamps, with Black Edition stepping up to LED tail lights with a dynamic turn signal. Match and Style also add an illuminated front light bar and illuminated VW logos - small night-time flourishes that mark the newer car out from older Tiguan generations on the road.
Wheel choice climbs with the trim. Life gets 18" 'Napoli' Black Diamond-turned alloys, Match wears 18" 'Bologna' Diamond-turned alloys, Style steps to 19" 'Catania' Black Diamond-turned alloys, and both R-Line and Black Edition sit on 20" 'York' alloys. Bumpers follow the same pattern. Life, Match, and Style wear body-coloured bumpers with chrome air-intake trim. R-Line adds 'R-Line' sports-style bumpers with chrome accents, and Black Edition finishes the same sports treatment in black, with matching black roof rails, mirror housings, and decorative trims.
At 4,539mm long and 1,842mm wide excluding mirrors (1,859mm on R-Line and Black Edition), the Tiguan sits squarely in compact SUV territory. The wheelbase runs to 2,677mm on petrol and diesel versions and 2,679mm on the eHybrid.
The range climbs through five trims: Life, Match, Style, R-Line, and Black Edition. Style is reserved for eHybrid buyers, and the 272PS flagship engine is limited to R-Line and Black Edition. Core safety features come as standard on every trim, including Front Assist autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring. The table below shows what each step adds on top.

Behind the trim ladder sits a five-engine lineup across three fuel types, all paired with DSG automatic gearboxes and front-wheel drive in the current order range. Petrol and diesel versions use a 7-speed DSG; the eHybrid plug-in uses a 6-speed DSG.

*Figures reflect Volkswagen's published UK data for the current Tiguan range. Economy, CO2 and electric range are measured to WLTP technical procedures. Weighted combined mpg on plug-in hybrids is a comparability figure and will vary with how often the battery is charged. Actual figures vary with weather, driving style, load, and conditions.
*As of 2026, current Tiguan models are only produced as FWD, with the AWD system now discontinued. That said, our Vertu stock still contains some AWD models and will do for the foreseeable future.
Vertu's Volkswagen dealerships also hold existing stock of the 2.0 TSI 4Motion R-Line, a 265PS all-wheel-drive (4x4 Tiguan) petrol that completes 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds. Volkswagen has withdrawn the 4Motion from new orders, but stock cars remain available while supplies last. Contact your local Vertu Volkswagen dealership for current availability.
Unusually for a plug-in hybrid, the Tiguan eHybrid accepts DC fast charging as well as the standard AC options. The table below sets out charging times for the 19.7kWh battery across the three charging methods.
| Charging method | Power | Charge time |
|---|---|---|
| AC Charging (0-100%) | ||
| Standard 3-pin domestic socket | 2.3kW | Approx. 12 hours |
| Home wallbox | 11kW | Approx. 2.5 hours |
| DC Charging (5-80%) | ||
| Public DC fast charger | Up to 40kW | 26 minutes |
*WLTP electric range reaches up to 75 miles combined and up to 90 miles in city driving on the Life trim's 204PS eHybrid. Charging times depend on starting battery state, ambient temperature and the charger used.
