Vertu is throwing the weight of its support behind the latest Tyre Safety Month campaign, an annual initiative arranged by the TyreSafe charity in October 2026.
Beginning on 1 October, the latest Tyre Safety Month campaign comes as TyreSafe honours 20 years since it was formed with the express aim of improving awareness for the contribution – and dangers – that tyres make towards being safe on the road.
For 2026, TyreSafe is launching the ‘Act Before You REact’ initiative, which is charged with encouraging drivers to regularly check tyres before setting off on journeys to help reduce the risk of tyre-related incidents that may occur in a split-second.
Indeed, the campaign identifies sudden stops, heavy rain and obstacles in the road as being unexpected triggers for sharp reactions when driving. However, while you may ‘react’ in time, if your tyres aren’t up to the job of gripping to counteract these moments safely, then there could be drastic consequences.
According to TyreSafe, its research reveals ‘a worrying gap between driver confidence and real-world readiness’ with figures showing:
- 83% believe they are in full control of stopping distance but only 6% correctly identify the stopping distance in wet conditions at motorway speeds
- 38% of people experienced a near-miss within the last 12 months, but only 11% checked their tyres afterwards
- 22% admitted they did nothing at all following a near miss
The figures coincide with the launch of Vertu’s Winter Check, which offers customers the chance for their cars to undergo a thorough health check by specialist trained technicians.
Our Winter Check is specifically designed to target the areas of your car most affected by the winter weather, including a thorough check of your tyres, brakes and battery.
Our manufacturer-approved technicians are trained to spot any issues that typically arise during the colder months so that you can drive through the winter with total confidence.
Moreover, a survey of Vertu technicians supports TyreSafe’s campaign by recommending drivers perform a basic health check of tyres, lights and fluids every two weeks during the winter months.
More than half of technicians surveyed also revealed that ‘regularly checking tyre pressures’ to be the most important maintenance issue that customers routinely delay or ignore.

As such, TyreSafe are encouraging people to ACT as part of their campaign:
A – Air Pressure
Correct tyre pressures improve braking performance, handling, fuel efficiency and tyre life.
Check your pressures monthly using an accurate gauge and always follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.
C – Condition
Inspect your tyres for:
- Cuts
- Bulges
- Cracks
- Objects embedded in the tread
- Any visible signs of damage
If you’re unsure, ask a tyre professional to inspect them.
T – Tread
Tyres need sufficient tread to maintain grip, particularly in wet weather.
For most passenger cars, the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread and around the entire circumference.
