Middlesborough kicked off the run to the festive period with an unfortunate defeat at Bristol City as the EFL Championship season resumed following the international break.

‘Boro had gone into the break buoyed by an impressive 1-0 victory over league leaders Leicester City to make it nine wins from eleven games in all competitions – having struggled to grab a victory in the early stages of the campaign.

Sitting tenth in the standings, ‘Boro went behind to a goal from Taylor Gardner-Hickman, before a penalty from Tommy Conway put Bristol City into a 2-0 half-time lead.

Two quick goals shortly after half-time saw ‘Boro draw level, with Zak Vyner putting through his own goal just two minutes before Matt Crooks slotted in the equaliser.

However, when Mark Sykes pounced on a rebound following a save from ‘Boro keeper Seny Dieng to put the home side back in front, Michael Carrick’s side were unable to find another equaliser despite Samuel Silvera seeing a shot hit the post.

The result means the Vertu Motors-backed side now sit twelfth in the standings ahead of games this week with Preston North End and Leeds United.
