Nissan has consolidated its status as one of the UK’s alternative fuel pioneers by announcing it has already reached the milestone of 100,000 EV sales.
The manufacturer has been leading the way in EV technology for over a decade, spearheaded by the success of the original Nissan Leaf hatchback.
Now Nissan has hit a defining landmark by delivering its 100,000th electric vehicle – an all-new Nissan MICRA in Rebel Red – to couple Ron and Gillian Ainsworth.
James Taylor, Managing Director of Nissan Motor GB, said: ‘‘We are incredibly proud to have led the way in automotive electrification for 15 years and it’s wonderful to have notched up 100,000 EV sales in the UK.
“Between the new MICRA and LEAF and the just-updated ARIYA, plus our two electric LCVs, Nissan has a strong electric line-up, with every model delivering affordability, innovation and everyday practicality.
“We hope Mr and Mrs Ainsworth will enjoy many happy years of motoring in their new car.’’
The milestone Nissan has achieved is not to be underestimated and comes some 15 years after the manufacturer led the way in EV technology with the launch of the Leaf.
A conventional hatchback with a visionary zero-emission powertrain, the Leaf came several years before rival companies hit the market with their electric alternatives.
Indeed, the strength in depth of electric cars on sale now owe a lot to models like the Leaf, which is now already in its third generation with the launch of the latest SUV-style hatchback earlier this year.
The new Nissan LEAF combines all of Nissan’s invaluable experience in the EV space within a practical and frugal package, one that has already earned it numerous accolades since hitting the road.
With EVs now accounting for more than a quarter of all new car sales in the UK, Nissan offers a comprehensive electric line-up comprising the MICRA, LEAF and ARIYA, as well as the commercial Townstar and Interstar vans.
The line-up will grow further in the coming months with the launch of the Nissan JUKE EV next year too.
