MG has offered a tantalising glimpse at its future entry-level electric hatchback with the unveiling of the racing-inspired MG GO! concept car.

Revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed alongside myriad new models from the Chinese-backed British marque, it was the MG GO! that nonetheless captured a significant share of the attention… and for good reason.

Indeed, while the GO! is being pitched as a concept car, it is considered a thinly veiled glimpse at the MG2 electric hatchback, which is set to hit the road next year.

Set to go head-to-head with the Renault 5 E-Tech, like that model, the MG GO! glances into the octagon-badged marque’s rich history of sporty hatchbacks for inspiration, most notably the wild Metro 6R4, MGB GT and MG ZR.

While the final production version will be toned down from the MG GO!, the MG2 will likely retain the concept’s wheel-at-each-corner stance, wraparound-style windscreen, flared wheelarches and MINI-like bulbous detailing.

That means the striking alloy wheels, rear diffuser, roof spoiler and striking front air-intakes are unlikely to make it to production, though they could reappear on a ‘hot hatch’ variant similar to the MG4 XPower.

Set to sit below the MG3 hybrid in the manufacturer’s line-up, the upcoming MG2 is expected to provide another entry into an increasingly congested marketplace for sub-£20,000 electric cars.

The MG2 will be based on a similar platform to that of the recently unveiled MG4 Urban, so expect class-leading practicality and competitive range figures at a particularly low price point.

The MG2 is expected to be revealed in early-2027 ahead of sales later in the year.
