More than 30 years after the original debuted on ITV, a rebooted version of the hit show ‘Gladiators’ returned to screens at the weekend – with a member of the Exeter Chiefs Women’s team taking on a starring role.

Jodie Ounsley joined up with the Vertu Motors-backed side in the summer of 2022 from Sale Sharks, and is the first deaf player to have represented her country having been part of the England Women's Rugby Sevens squad.

Earlier this year, Jodie – winner of the 2020 Deaf Sports Personality of the Year and an Honorary President of UK Deaf Sport – was named as one of the new Gladiators for the rebooted show, with the 22-year-old taking up the role of Fury.

Taking her place for filming in Sheffield back in the summer with the first episode of the new series airing on BB1 on Saturday in front of a peak audience of more than 6 million.

Jodie’s debut as Fury would come in Gauntlet before making light work of beating competitor Tasha on Hang Tough.

The series will continue this weekend, with Jodie on a watching brief as she continues to recover from surgery on a dislocated shoulder suffered during the first game of the season against Warriors Women – a game in which she had earlier scored a try to help set up a 39-7 victory.
