Every New Home To Have Their Own Electric Vehicle Charge Point
The government have just announced that every new-build home in the UK with a car parking space will have their own electric car charge point built in.
The proposal will not only make it easier for electric vehicle owners to charge their car, it will help them save money and time. Making it much less difficult for you to charge your Jaguar I-PACE.
Chris Grayling, Transport Secretary, explains that ‘home charging provides the most convenient and low-cost option for consumers – you can simply plug your car in to charge overnight as you would a mobile phone.’
There is still some uncertainty from consumers concerning electric vehicles, especially when it comes to worrying about running out of charge. However, this legislation, which will be the first one to be ever implemented by any government, will hopefully encourage drivers to turn electric knowing that the convenience of charging is literally on your door step.
The government are also working on plans to alleviate any extra cost that may arise on a household’s supply, proposing an exemption of £3600 per charging point and charge points are to use “smart” technology which will help reduce the cost.
This new law highlights another step to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 for the UK. Statistics showed that in 2018, 33% of CO2 emissions were the product of transport. Therefore, by building EV charging points to all new build homes and offices, it is encouraging people to opt for an EV vehicle, which will automatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a greener future for us all.
