Exeter Chiefs Go Two From Two In Europe

Exeter Chiefs secured a second win in as many games in the Investec Champions Cup with a fine comeback victory at Sandy Park.

The Chiefs had kicked off their European programme a week earlier in France, with Henry Slade’s conversion with the final kick of securing victory against Toulon.

In the first home game of the competition, it was visitors Munster who grabbed the early lead when Calvin Nash rounded out a fine move with a simple finish that was converted by Jack Crowley.

Dan Frost’s converted reply brought the Chiefs level, but Tom Ahern and Antoine Frisch both scored before half-time to take Munster into a 19-10 lead at the break.

A penalty from Slade closed the gap when the second half got underway but Shane Daly then scored the fourth Munster try to leave Chiefs playing catch-up going into the final 20 minutes of the game.

Ross Vintcent was able to ground the ball to bring Exeter back into the game and just two minutes later, Nash misjudged a bouncing ball and Jack Dunne pounced to give the Chiefs the lead for the first time.

Having converted both tries, it was then left to Slade to wrap things up with a late interception that allowed him to break free and wrap up an impressive 32-24 win and make it two wins in the competition this season.
