The Hyundai TUCSON ticks all the boxes of family life.
If you’ve got kids, pets, school runs, and weekend adventures to juggle, it's a car that can keep up.
Say hello to the Hyundai TUCSON 1.6T Premium 5dr. As the manufacturer’s best selling model, we set off to the coast with a boot full of suitcases and a mission to put this family-first SUV to the test. We had high hopes, and they were definitely met.
The TUCSON is practical where it matters, and a little bit fancy where you deserve it. Here’s what we loved the most.
Hyundai TUCSON Cockpit: The best of both worlds
Inside you’re treated to a beautifully curved central screen with touch-sensitive buttons that just feel… nice. It’s sleek and modern, and adds a touch of luxury to the dash.
The TUCSON does support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but its own interface is attractive and navigable enough to be used on its own.
We’re a big fan of the TUCSON’s smooth touch-sensitive controls, but there are many who yearn for the days of tactical knobs and buttons.
For those people, or when you just don’t want to fiddle with touch controls while the toddler’s asking for sweets, Hyundai has kept a few physical buttons for essentials like Home, Search, and Map. It’s a small but significant contribution to the TUCSON’s practicality.
Hyundai TUCSON Drive: Smooth and seamless
On the move, the TUCSON’s firm yet comfortable ride shines through. It’s confident on the motorway, but equally happy darting into a supermarket parking space or weaving through the school drop-off queue.
The steering feels responsive without being twitchy, taking tight manoeuvres easily.
Driving feels very refined, with no harsh mechanical growls or no clunky gear changes. It’s the kind of SUV that makes even the Monday morning school run feel civilised.
Hyundai TUCSON Space: Roomy enough for everyone and everything
The TUCSON is a super roomy SUV. We easily fit two large suitcases, a coolbox, and a tent in the boot without even removing the parcel shelf. There's ample space for family holidays, sports kits, prams, and the weekly shop.
The rear seats fold flat for even bigger hauls, and there’s plenty of passenger legroom so no one feels squashed, including those over six feet.
Hyundai TUCSON Rear Seats: Fit for families
There’s room for three in the rear, including a middle seat with roof-mounted belt.
In terms of storage, the TUCSON has netted pockets and spacious door bins, there’s a pair cupholders in the fold-down armrest. There’s also two USB ports, should passengers want to charge up their devices.
With its spacious, plush interior and cabin that is surprisingly insulated from road noise, everyone is guaranteed a pleasant ride.
What’s the verdict on the Hyundai TUCSON?
The Hyundai TUCSON is a calm, comfortable, and capable SUV fit for family life. It can’t break-up back seat arguments or predict motorway jams, but it will deliver you to your destination in safety and style.
