Middlesbrough missed out on the chance to climb into the top ten in the EFL Championship after the Vertu Motors-backed side was the latest to fall victim to in-form Ipswich Town.

‘Boro went into the game chasing a third successive win at the Riverside following impressive victories against Leicester City and Preston North End, and bidding to bounce back from a narrow loss at Leeds.

Ipswich however were seeking to maintain their impressive promotion charge and took the lead in the first half thanks to Conor Chaplin, with the home team offering little going forwards by way of response.

‘Boro improved after the break however, with the best chances to equalise coming from Emmanuel Latte Lath – who came close with one curling effort before forcing the Ipswich keeper into a fine save from a header.

That would be as good as it got however, with Ipswich instead wrapping up the points when Omari Hutchinsonfinished off a breakaway move to put the visitors into a 2-0 lead.

Despite the defeat, ‘Boro remain just three points away from the play off places in twelfth place ahead of a busy week – with games against Hull and Swansea to come.
