The long-awaited and much anticipated Jaguar Type 01 has received its official world premiere billed as ‘the most technically advanced, powerful and aerodynamic Jaguar ever produced’.
One of the highest profile motoring launches of the decade, the Type 01 is a 100% electric four-door GT boasting the high performance and lavish specification that helps reposition Jaguar as a more exclusive, ultra-premium brand.
Indeed, the Type 01 marks a return to the spotlight for the iconic British marque following an extended period of re-organisation. In the meantime, a concept version of the Type 01 was presented as a clear indication of Jaguar’s pivot towards bold, trend-setting design and high-end luxury.
Almost two years later, the production-ready Jaguar Type 01 has arrived, revealing a look that very clearly turns the page on the storied manufacturer’s electric future.
Jaguar Type 01: An All-New Design Approach for an All-New Era
In fact, the Type 01 remains true to the Type 00 concept car, the svelte yet broad silhouette staying intact to give the flagship Jaguar a formidable, yet elegant presence on the road.
The front-end is dominated by a simple slatted blanked-off front grille, which proudly brandishes Jaguar’s new, more contemporary logo, and is flanked by slimline LED headlights.
Squared off haunches rise from the front bumper and blend into wheelarches that barely contain enormous 23-inch wheels, before merging into a wide, defined shoulder line that stretches the entire 5.2-metre length nose-to-rear.
The shoulder line collects into the drag co-efficient 0.23 fastback rear-quarter to complete the modern and minimalist finish with a stack-style panel that runs full-width and disguises the tail lights hidden within.
Jaguar Type 01: Uncompromising Luxury for Four-Seat Interior
Inside, the Type 01’s clean, high-end cabin emphasises the model’s sheer length with a wide, upholstered central spine that apportions the seats into four distinct positions
For the driver, the Type 01 has a steering wheel yoke and a slender central panel that contains entertainment, seating and climate switches, while a digital ClearSight Rear View Display is positioned centrally at the base of the windscreen.
Most controls can be made via a smartphone-style seven-inch display located on the spine between the driver and the passenger, while the top specification includes full-range a Panoramic Soundbar with Sensory Audio seats, while the 24-inch central display is glass OLED.
Jaguar describes the interior as being a ‘sensory experience’, while materials are representative of the manufacturer’s ambition to combine heritage signals with uncompromising modern luxury.
As the most powerful Jaguar ever produced, the Type 01 generates up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque from its 118kWh usable battery, completing the 0-62mph sprint in a brisk 3.2secs yet still returning up to 400-miles of range on a single charge.
While the Type 01 is huge in scale, it has been tuned with help from its Jaguar Formula E racing team to ensure 50:50 weight distribution, ensuring it can handle its powerful powertrain with vigour, while offering the refinement that supports its ‘Grand Tourer’ status.
The Jaguar Type 01 is expected to reach Vertu Jaguar dealerships in 2027.
