New BMW iX4 revealed: 514-mile range, 604bhp flagship coupe-SUV

BMW has revealed the new iX4, a coupe-shaped electric SUV that brings the Neue Klasse design language to a sportier bodystyle than the BMW iX3. It's on sale now, with first UK customer deliveries commencing from 6 March 2027. BMW will offer three versions at launch, headed by the 604bhp iX4 M60 xDrive, with a flagship range of up to 514 miles.

A Coupe-SUV Take On Neue Klasse

From the front, the new iX4 is nearly identical to the iX3. It shares the Neue Klasse face with its illuminated kidney grille and twin headlights fused into a single graphic. Everything from the B-pillar back is new, though. The sloping roofline, pronounced rear spoiler and slim horizontal rear lights give the car what BMW calls its ‘Sports Activity Coupe’ silhouette.

Every version comes with the M Sport package as standard, including 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and M Sport brakes with blue callipers. The flagship iX4 M60 xDrive steps up to 21-inch alloys, M Shadowline kidney trim, M Yellow Lights and a model-specific rear spoiler. Wheels up to 22 inches are available as an option across the range.

A panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing is standard across the line-up. BMW will offer nine exterior colours from launch, with three Frozen finishes joining from March 2027. More BMW Individual shades will follow.

Three Electric Variants At Launch

Three versions of the BMW iX4 are heading to UK showrooms. The iX4 40 xDrive is the entry point. Two electric motors, one on each axle, combine for 369bhp and 520Nm of torque. BMW quotes 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds and up to 396 miles of range on the WLTP combined cycle.

The headline act is the iX4 50 xDrive, which lifts outputs to 462bhp and 645Nm. More importantly for long-distance drivers, it's the version that delivers the 514-mile WLTP range figure. 0-62mph takes just 4.9 seconds. On a 400kW DC rapid charger, it can add up to 240 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Top of the range is the iX4 M60 xDrive, BMW M Performance's take on the car. Its twin motors produce 604bhp and 875Nm, enough for a 3.9-second 0-62mph sprint and an electronically limited top speed of 149mph. Range drops a little under the extra pace, to 483 miles. The M60 xDrive can be ordered from January 2027.

Interior, Tech And Panoramic iDrive

Inside, the iX4 shares its dashboard architecture with the iX3. That means BMW Panoramic iDrive on display. There's a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, a 3D Head-Up Display and the Panoramic Vision screen that stretches across the base of the windscreen. A sports steering wheel is standard, with an M-specific version fitted to the M60 xDrive.

Despite the sloping roofline, rear space is protected thanks to a compact cell-to-pack battery design. Boot space is 490 litres with the seats up, 30 litres less than the iX3. Fold the seats and the volume rises to 1,600 litres, around 150 litres short of what the squarer iX3 offers.

BMW's Gen6 eDrive system uses 800V architecture and introduces bidirectional charging. The car can send energy back to your home or the grid. Driver assistance has moved on, too. The Motorway Assistant feature allows hands-free driving at up to 81mph on approved UK routes.
