The Jaguar Type 01 prototype has made its long-awaited public debut dressed in a new livery that offers a clearer glimpse of the eagerly anticipated final product.

Coming in the week that the British marque confirmed the name of the ambitious electric Grand Tourer, the Type 01 went on display at the Monaco E-Prix, the latest round of the Formula E World Championship in which Jaguar competes.

Aligning with the Monaco E-Prix event is no coincidence. Indeed, Jaguar says the learnings and technological innovation attained from competing in Formula E has influenced the Type 01 throughout its development.

Describing the Type 01 as a ‘composed yet powerful modern GT’, the 983bhp all-electric model’s all-wheel drive control software, fast-switching silicon carbide-powered inverters, regenerative braking and fast-charging capability started life competing successfully on the race track.

Presented in a new red, white and black wrap, though Jaguar is keeping the finer details of the EV under the covers for now, the grandiose silhouette of the four-door tourer certainly pops against the glamorous surroundings of the Monaco principality.

While it remains to be seen if some of the more outlandish design elements of the much-discussed Type 00 prototype have made it through to production, this latest iteration of the Type 01 emphasises the model’s anticipated blend of muscular elegance.

With its blunt front-end, sleek roofline and stocky shoulder line, the Type 01 is destined to make an impact when it is eventually revealed in its full glory and its no exaggeration to suggest it is one of the most anticipated car launches of recent times.

Indeed, not only does the Type 01 represent a brave new style signature for Jaguar, it will herald a new era for the brand as a whole, complete with a new logo and a fresh approach that focuses on electric power and premium sectors.

“We have reimagined Jaguar for a new era, with inspiration from what has gone before,” said Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar.

“Our engineers have achieved this with a vehicle that looks and drives like no other electric car, yet reflects a unique provenance.

“The Type 01 name is part of that story – for me, the zero also signifies a complete brand reset, and the '1', our first car for a new chapter, a 'one of a kind!'”
