Burnley have been left to focus on the battle for Premier League survival after a late goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw the Vertu Motors-backed side exit the FA Cup at the Third Round stage.

The Clarets went into the game on the back of a game against Aston Villa which had provided plenty of promise, despite ending in defeat after a last minute penalty kick.

Boss Vincent Kompany made five changes for the game and Burnley started well, with Wilson Odobert seeing an early shot pushed away by Guglielmo Vicario in the Tottenham goal inside the first ten minutes.

Arijanet Muric in the Burnley goal then produced a fine save to deny Brennan Johnson when he cut in from the left and tried to curl a shot into the far corner before Zeki Amdouni missed a gilt-edged chance to fire the away side into the lead when he put the ball over from close range.

Muric produced a number of saves in the second half but his attempt at a quick throw late on led to Amdouni being disposed by Pedro Porro who strode forwards before arrowing an unstoppable drive into the top corner or the net.

Burnley pushed hard late on and came close to an equaliser in stoppage time but ultimately bowed out of the competition at the Third Round stage for the second time in three years, and are now left to focus solely on the battle for league survival.

That battle continues with a huge tie against Luton Town on Friday, with the Hatters just four points ahead in the table.
