March Shortlists for the PFA Vertu Motors Fans' Player of the Month Awards

The PFA Vertu Motors Fans' Player of the Month Award nominations have been finalised for March.

Six players from each of the top five professional leagues in England have been shortlisted for their brilliant performances over the last month. Fans now have the power to decide who takes the title...

Premier League

Nominees: Bukayo Saka, Arsenal; Philippe Coutinho, Aston Villa; Ivan Toney, Brentford; Kai Havertz, Chelsea; Harry Kane, Tottenham; Cucho Hernandez, Watford.

Premier League Nominees

Saka has been impressive all season – but his numbers have really begun to reflect his form lately. He provided an assist and a great goal against Watford and also bagged the winner at Aston Villa. Coutinho looked incredibly dangerous throughout March, having a huge influence in Villa wins with two goals and an assist. Toney netted five times in just three matches in March, taking his scoring tally into double figures - the arrival of Christian Eriksen has certainly helped his game. Kai Havertz arrived in the Premier League last month, scoring four times in three matches - the absolute highlight was his late winner against Newcastle United. Kane cannot be stopped at the moment, with six goal involvements in just four matches – he’s definitely in his best form so far this season. Watford winger Cucho Hernandez came into fine form in March, scoring a spectacular bicycle kick and getting an assist against Arsenal, as well two goals in a crucial match-winning display at Southampton.

Women’s Super League

Nominees: Vivianne Miedema, Arsenal; Guro Reiten, Chelsea; Sam Kerr, Chelsea; Alessia Russo, Manchester United; Alex Greenwood, Manchester City; Ona Batlle, Manchester United.

WSL Nominees

Vivianne Miedema has been thriving in a new ‘number 10’ role, scoring two goals and getting two assists in three wins in March. Reiten started in three of Chelsea’s four wins last month, playing in multiple roles. She had most attacking success as a left wing-back, netting three times in games against Everton and Leicester. Sam Kerr’s surprising recent goal drought came to a sharp end with the Chelsea star scoring five times across four games in March – flying ahead in the Golden Boot race. Russo contributed heavily as Manchester United beat Leicester, Reading and Everton in March – she scored four times in total and was involved in all-round build-up play. Greenwood was Player of the Month for February and continued to prove why, underpinning Manchester City’s improved form, not conceding in March. Ona Battle consistently impressed from right-back with two assists and a contender for goal of the season which was wrongly disallowed! She has been a driving force behind Manchester United’s improved form in March.

EFL Championship

Nominees: Dominic Solanke, Bournemouth; Jake Cooper, Millwall; Jonson Clarke-Harris, Peterborough United; Sander Berge, Sheffield United; Lewis Baker, Stoke City; Karlan Grant, West Bromwich Albion.

Championship Nominees

Solanke helped Bournemouth’s promotion push with three goals and two assists in March. The Lions had a great month, thanks to defender Cooper who helped to keep four clean sheets and managed to bag a goal too. Star striker Clarke-Harris had a great month, scoring four goals for The Posh. Norwegian international Sander Berge helped The Blades’ promotion push with three important goals. Lewis Baker had an exceptional month for Stoke with three goals and an assist. The Baggies were unbeaten in March and Grant was instrumental with four goals and an assist.

EFL League One

Nominees: Alfie May, Cheltenham Town; Ryan Hardie, Plymouth Argyle; George Hirst, Portsmouth; Saido Berahino, Sheffield Wednesday; Daniel Udoh, Shrewsbury Town; Will Keane, Wigan Athletic.

League 1 Nominees

Alfie May had another goal filled month for The Robins, scoring five times. Ryan Hardie claimed four goals and an assist in for Plymouth. Portsmouth closed in on the play-off spots thanks to five goals from Hirst. Former England international, Berahino enjoyed his March with four goals including a hat-trick, and an assist. Nigerian striker Udoh continued his impressive season with four goals in March. Wigan's leading striker Keane had a brilliant month with four goals in five matches.

EFL League Two

Nominees: Omari Patrick, Carlisle United; Jevani Brown, Exeter City; Ruel Sotiriou, Leyton Orient, Mitchell Pinnock, Northampton Town; Ben Garrity, Port Vale; Brandon Thomas-Asante, Salford City.

League 2 Nominees

Omari Patrick was influential to Carlisle’s great month with three important goals. Two goals and three assists mean Jevani Brown has been nominated for the second month in a row. Young Cypriot Ruel Sotiriou had a fine March with six goals and an assist. Pinnock has had an outstanding season so far, and that continued in March with three goals and an assist. Three goals and an assist from in-form midfielder Garrity helped Port Vale push towards the play-off spots. Four goals including a hat-trick from Thomas-Asante helped to maintain Salford push for promotion.
