Plymouth Maintain Strong Home Form

Plymouth Argyle maintained its strong home form in the EFL Championship with a dramatic late victory against Rotherham.

The Pilgrims had gone into a double fixture week seeking to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat against league leaders Leicester City, which left them sitting 18th in the table and three points clear of the bottom three.

An away trip to QPR kicked off the week, with Plymouth bidding to move further clear of the London side in the standings.

Despite a strong start against a side that had won three games in a row, Argyle were left on the back foot when Dan Scarr was dismissed after 25 minutes but a solid defensive display kept the game goalless and meant a valuable point to take back to Devon.

A huge game followed against the side propping up the Championship table at Home Park but it was Rotherham who grabbed the lead after Jamie Lindsay scored his first goal in more than a year.

Argyle’s hopes were hit by injuries to both Ryan Hardie and Mustapha Bundu, but they pulled level before the break when Finn Azaz converted an injury time penalty before his sixth goal of the season gave the home side the lead – minutes before Rotherham were reduced to ten men following a red card for Daniel Ayala.

Even after going a man down, Rotherham continued to fight and pulled level only for Morgan Whittaker to shoot low into the net six minutes into injury time to secure the points.

It means Argyle have moved up into 16th in the table and are now six points clear of the drop zone going into a home game with Birmingham.
