From Tuesday 1st September 2026, new Motability Scheme lease terms will apply to customers who receive their allowance from Social Security Scotland.
Why the timeline differs in Scotland
The Motability Scheme operates in Scotland under a separate agreement, the Accessible Vehicles and Equipment Scheme (AVES).
Customers with a Scottish allowance were told in June 2026 that the wider Scheme changes would not apply straight away, to allow time for discussions with the Scottish Government to conclude. Those discussions have now finished, confirming the new lease terms for Scotland from Tuesday 1st September 2026.
Which allowances are affected
The change applies to customers who receive any of the following allowances from Social Security Scotland:
Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance (SADLA)
Adult Disability Payment (ADP)
Child Disability Payment (CDP)
