Yorkshire missed out on a first win of the County Championship season after Gloucestershire were able to able to bat through the final day in Bristol to salvage a draw.

The Vertu Motors-backed side had kicked off their Division Two campaign with a home draw against Leicestershire in a rain-affected encounter at Headingley, and looked in trouble on day one against Gloucs after a flurry of early wickets on the first morning saw them restricted to 90-5.

Captain Shan Masood however produced a fine innings of 140, and with Jonny Tattersall and Matt Milnes both passing 50, Yorkshire were able to reach a respectable 326 in their first innings.

Chris Dent and Ollie Price were both dismissed before the end of the day to leave Gloucestershire on 28-2 head into day two, where Cameron Bancroft led a fightback for the home side with 70.

Yorkshire would eventually dismiss their rivals for 263, and had moved 120 runs clear after making it to the end of the day without losing a wicket.

The visitors dominated the third day to set Gloucestershire an unlikely target of 498 to win, led by Adam Lyth as he top scored with 113.

Joe Root – appearing in the County Championship for the first time in nearly two years - and Harry Brook also hit half centuries before Yorkshire’s bowlers removed the Gloucestershire top order to leave the home side on 97-4 going into the final day.

Whilst that meant Yorkshire were hot favourites to wrap up the win, Ollie Price had other ideas and a career-best of 147, alongside 102 from James Bracey, saw the home side bat through the day to reach 405-6 and secure a draw.

Yorkshire take 13 points from the game to sit second in the standings.
