DS Automobiles is France's answer to the established German premium badges, and a used DS brings its avant-garde design and comfort technology within closer reach. The marque grew out of Citron's upmarket DS line, became a standalone brand in 2015, and now sits within the Stellantis group. That heritage traces back to the original 1955 Citron DS, a car remembered for turning ride comfort into an art form.
At Vertu the used DS range covers the DS-branded era from 2019 onward: the DS 3, DS 4 and DS 7, with the DS 9 saloon as the flagship above them. It's worth knowing that the DS-branded DS 3 is the compact SUV launched in 2019, not the earlier Citron-badged DS3 supermini, which is a different car from a different marque.
One naming quirk helps when you're browsing. In 2022 DS dropped the "Crossback" name, so the DS 3 Crossback became the DS 3 and the DS 7 Crossback became the DS 7. Used listings show both names for what are essentially the same cars, separated by a mid-life update rather than a new model.
Every used DS at Vertu is prepared and checked by our colleagues before it reaches the forecourt, then backed by a 14-day money-back guarantee. If a car isn't right for you, you have a fortnight to exchange it or take a refund. Buying used also widens what your budget reaches, since the first owner has already absorbed the steepest depreciation.
A used DS earns its place on three counts: design, comfort technology, and value. Each one carries over from the first owner intact.
The design and craft are the reason people choose DS over a more obvious badge. The cabins lean on Nappa leather, watch-strap-style stitching and pearl-point detailing, inspired by Parisian fashion rather than motorsport aggression. None of that fades with a change of owner.
The comfort technology is the other draw, and it's genuinely distinctive. Features such as camera-controlled DS Active Scan Suspension and infrared DS Night Vision are rare at any price and rarer still on the used market at this level. On a pre-owned DS they work exactly as they left the factory in Poissy.
Then there's value. A year or two of someone else's ownership takes the hardest hit of depreciation, so a used DS often lands a higher trim, or a plug-in hybrid instead of a petrol, inside the same budget.
The table below groups the DS models you'll find used at Vertu, with a note on why each one makes sense pre-owned and the powertrains to look for. The DS 9, DS's plug-in hybrid executive saloon, also reaches the used market as the flagship, though availability is more limited. Select a model to view stock.
| Model | Why Buy One Used | Powertrains and What to Know |
|---|---|---|
| SUVs and Crossovers | ||
| DS 3 | DS's compact premium SUV, and one of the lighter cars in its class. The fully electric DS 3 E-Tense stands out used, with rapid charging that reaches 80% in around 30 minutes. | Petrol (PureTech), diesel (BlueHDi) on earlier cars, and the all-electric E-Tense, which gives zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving. The latest E-Tense is rated up to 250 miles (WLTP); earlier cars are rated lower. |
| DS 7 | DS's flagship SUV and its first bespoke model, with camera-controlled DS Active Scan Suspension and available DS Night Vision. The E-Tense 4x4 300 plug-in hybrid reaches 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds. | Petrol (PureTech), diesel (BlueHDi), and E-Tense plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in 225 front-wheel-drive and 300 four-wheel-drive forms. Post-2022 cars drop the "Crossback" name. |
| Hatchback | ||
| DS 4 | A premium hatchback alternative to the German compact executives, launched in 2021. The E-Tense 225 plug-in hybrid pairs everyday electric running with a petrol engine for longer trips. | Petrol (PureTech), diesel (BlueHDi), and E-Tense plug-in hybrid (PHEV) offering up to 38.5 miles of electric-only range (WLTP), with zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving on battery. |
The highlights describe the latest version of each model. Used examples at Vertu span several model years, so battery size, range, specification and features vary by age and trim. A colleague can confirm the details of any specific car.
WLTP figures come from controlled laboratory tests and offer a guide for comparing models, rather than a promise of real-world range or economy. Actual figures vary with weather, driving style, road conditions and load.
What sets a used DS apart is the technology built around comfort rather than outright pace. DS Active Scan Suspension uses a camera behind the windscreen, plus attitude sensors and accelerometers, to read the road ahead and adjust each wheel's damping continuously, softening bumps before they reach you.
DS Night Vision goes further, using an infrared camera to pick out people and animals in the dark up to around 100 metres ahead. Adaptive DS Matrix LED and later Pixel LED Vision headlamps shape the beam to the road, and a Focal Electra sound system with 12 speakers features on higher trims.
Inside, the craft is the point. Nappa leather, watch-strap-style upholstery and pearl-point stitching give the cabin a fashion-house feel, backed by twin digital screens and, on later cars, the DS Iris voice assistant. These are the details that make a DS feel unlike anything else at the price.
Buying a used DS from Vertu means a checked, prepared car and the same guarantees behind it. Here's what that looks like.
| What We Offer | What It Means for You |
|---|---|
| Comprehensive multi-point checks | Every used car prepared to the highest standards by our technicians before it reaches the forecourt. |
| 14-day money-back guarantee | A fortnight to change your mind, with an exchange or a refund. |
| Part-exchange accepted | We value your current car and put it towards your used DS. |
| Tailored finance packages | PCP and HP payment plans arranged around your budget, not a fixed template. |
| Free home delivery up to 30 miles | Your DS brought to your door at no extra cost (T&Cs apply). |
| Reserve or buy online | Start the purchase from home with buy online, then choose delivery or collection. |
Spreading the cost of a used DS is straightforward, with two main routes and a part-exchange to put towards either.
Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) keeps monthly payments lower by settling most of the cost at the end. You can then pay the final amount to own the car, hand it back, or part-exchange it for your next one. Hire Purchase (HP) is the simpler ownership route, with fixed monthly payments and the car yours once the last one clears.
A free, no-obligation valuation tells you what your current car is worth towards the deal, and Vertu will still buy cars that have finance outstanding. Our finance explained guide sets out each option, and our colleagues can prepare a personalised quotation.
Ready to start? Browse the used DS stock at Vertu, then reserve or buy online for home delivery, or arrange to view the range in person at a Vertu dealership. Free home delivery is available up to 30 miles, and every used car carries the 14-day money-back guarantee.
If an electric or plug-in hybrid DS appeals, our electric cars guide explains how the technology works and what it means for running costs. For a price or a finance quote on any car, contact us and a colleague will talk you through the options.
