The new MINI Cooper gives you a genuine choice of character, from a 122hp Cooper ONE three-door petrol hatch through to the 258hp all-electric John Cooper Works, all built on the fifth-generation MINI reset that landed in 2024. Every version comes with MINI's world-first 240mm circular OLED display and MINI Operating System 9 as standard, whilst the three-door, five-door and all-electric variants each tune the Cooper's signature go-kart handling to a different kind of journey. Whether you're keeping it petrol or going fully electric, there's a MINI Cooper built around how you actually drive.

The MINI Cooper now exists in four distinct forms under a single badge: a three-door petrol hatch, a five-door petrol hatch, an all-electric hatchback, and the MINI John Cooper Works performance flagship, all built on the fifth-generation MINI reset that landed in 2024.
That reset is the biggest step-change the Cooper has seen since BMW relaunched the brand in 2001. Outside, the surfaces are cleaner and the headlights slimmer; inside, almost every physical button has been swapped for a world-first 240mm circular OLED display running MINI Operating System 9. The underlying go-kart feeling stays unmistakably Cooper.
Three Style trims run across every version: Classic (the entry point), Exclusive (the premium pick) and Sport (JCW-inspired styling without the JCW powertrain). The electric MINI Cooper adds Monochrome as an electric-only fifth style, and above every Style sits the John Cooper Works line, with 231hp from the three-door petrol JCW and 258hp from the John Cooper Works Electric.
The MINI Paul Smith Edition is a signature-finish option across all four versions, with Statement Grey or Inspired White paint, Nottingham Green roof, and striped Paul Smith interior textiles. It tends to suit buyers who want the Cooper to look as distinctive as it drives.
City drivers who prize parking footprint will gravitate to the three-door, families who want MINI character with usable rear seats are better served by the MINI Cooper 5-door, and anyone whose daily range fits inside 186 miles can run the Cooper E on home charging alone, with the Cooper SE pushing that to 247 miles.
Want to see how it looks and drives before you order? Our MINI Cooper review sits above, walking through the cabin, the circular OLED display and how the fifth-generation car behaves on the road.
What you'll notice first inside any new MINI Cooper is the one feature that reorders every other interior decision: the 240mm circular OLED display MINI calls a world-first in its class. It replaces both the instrument cluster and the central screen, consolidating speed, navigation, climate, media and MINI Experience Modes into one round face behind a smaller sports steering wheel.
Below the display, a horizontal toggle bar handles the parking brake, drive-mode selector, gear selector and engine start, keeping the physical controls away from the touchscreen. The dashboard is finished in a recycled, 2D-knitted textile, patterned to match whichever Style trim you've chosen, from perforated houndstooth on Classic to red-accented JCW cord on Sport. Seven MINI Experience Modes change the display graphics, ambient lighting and soundscape in one gesture, with a Personal Mode that uses your own photo as the display background.
Space is modest and deliberately so. The three-door petrol and all-electric Coopers carry four with 783mm and 778mm of rear legroom; the five-door adds a fifth seat and 821mm of legroom. All versions get 60:40 split-folding rear seats and a 210-litre boot, extending to around 725 litres folded on the three-door and up to 1,005 litres on the five-door.
Optional kit groups into three Level packs: Level 1 adds the full-colour Head Up Display, Level 2 brings the panoramic two-part sunroof, and Level 3 upgrades to electrically adjustable sport seats with memory and massage. An optional MINI Connected Package adds AirConsole in-car gaming, music streaming, and MINI Navigation AR for a live front-camera view with route guidance overlaid.
Walk up to any current MINI Cooper and the generational shift is immediately visible. Round LED headlights frame a flush front end, body-coloured surfaces replace the old chrome details, and the overall shape is a cleaner read of the iconic silhouette that has stayed continuous since 2001.
Each Style trim stamps its own look on the car. Classic keeps the Octagonal Grille Surround in black, pairs with standard 16-inch alloy wheels, and reads as the purest take on the Cooper shape. Exclusive moves to Vibrant Silver exterior accents and the grille surround with 17-inch or 18-inch alloys, available with a gradient multitone roof that remains one of the segment's most individual paint options. Sport leans unmistakably on the JCW look, with JCW-styled bumpers, a Jet Black contrast roof and mirror caps, and 17-inch JCW alloy wheels sitting over black brake calipers.
The Paul Smith Edition sits across all four versions with Statement Grey or Inspired White paint and Nottingham Green roof details. The all-electric Cooper adds Monochrome, where Midnight Black or Nanuq White runs onto the roof and 17-inch grey alloys for visual coherence the brighter trims deliberately avoid. At 3,876mm long by 1,970mm wide including mirrors, the three-door Cooper stays a genuinely compact MINI car on any parking space.
If an open-top MINI is more your fit, the current MINI Cooper Convertible shares the Cooper's three-door silhouette with a three-section electric soft top roof, and sits on its own dedicated listing within the Vertu MINI cars UK range.
Three Style trims run across the MINI Cooper range (Classic, Exclusive and Sport), with the John Cooper Works line as a dedicated performance flagship above them. The Paul Smith Edition is a signature-finish option available across every version, and the all-electric Cooper adds Monochrome as an electric-only fifth style. The table below groups equipment by category across the four main trims; Monochrome and Paul Smith detail follows below.

The Paul Smith Edition is a signature-finish option across all four versions, pairing Statement Grey or Inspired White paint with Nottingham Green roof and mirror caps, striped Paul Smith interior textiles and the Head Up Display as standard. On the all-electric Cooper specifically, Monochrome adds Midnight Black or Nanuq White with matching roof, 17-inch grey alloys, front heated seats, wireless phone charging and the Head Up Display as standard.
Petrol MINI Coopers come in three states of engine tune, with the John Cooper Works adding a fourth above them. All drive the front wheels through a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch automatic; there is no manual gearbox in the current MINI Cooper range, which also makes every car in the lineup an automatic MINI. The table below splits the figures by body style, with the three-door JCW listed separately as a model in its own right.

The ONE and C engines share the same 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder block tuned to two outputs; the Cooper S steps up to a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, with the John Cooper Works using the same 2.0-litre block in a higher state of tune for 231hp. MINI Turbo technology and JCW-only Go-Kart Mode are the mechanical signatures that give the current petrol range its character.
Two battery sizes power the all-electric MINI Cooper range, with the John Cooper Works Electric adding a third option above them. The electric MINI is sold as the Cooper E for a WLTP range of up to 186 miles, or the Cooper SE for up to 247 miles range, both with zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving.
| Engine | Power | 0-62 mph | Torque | Battery (kWh) | Range (WLTP) | DC Rapid Charge (10-80%) |

*WLTP range figures are for comparability only. Real-world range varies by driving style, weather, battery starting charge and vehicle load. The all-electric MINI Cooper and John Cooper Works Electric produce zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving.
7.4kW AC wallbox charging at home takes 5 hours 45 minutes (Cooper E) or 7 hours 45 minutes (Cooper SE) from empty to full; an 11kW public AC post cuts that to 4 hours 30 and 5 hours 15 respectively. Every new MINI electric comes with the Mode 3 charging cable and MINI Charging Card as standard, and the electric John Cooper Works adds E-Launch Control. The high-voltage battery carries an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty on top of MINI's three-year unlimited-mileage vehicle warranty.
