Overview of the Nissan Leaf

The all-new Nissan Leaf is a fully electric fastback SUV built to move you and to power what matters when you arrive. This third-generation Leaf recovers up to 273 miles of range in around 30 minutes of rapid charging, and its Vehicle-to-Load output of up to 3.1kW runs everything from a camping stove to a laptop straight from the battery.

The Leaf name helped start Britain's electric era, and this model reinvents it. The familiar hatchback silhouette gives way to an aerodynamic SUV shape with a drag coefficient of up to 0.25, flush door handles and a fully covered underfloor. It shares its electric vehicle (EV) platform with the Nissan Ariya, and it is built in Sunderland (source: Nissan).

You choose from two battery sizes. The 52kWh Leaf offers up to 280 miles of WLTP combined range, while the 75kWh version stretches that to up to 387 miles, so longer trips and spontaneous detours stay well within reach. Both deliver zero tailpipe emissions on every journey.

Trim choice runs from Engage and Advance on the 52kWh battery to Engage, Engage+, Advance and Evolve on the 75kWh. Every Leaf carries a three-year, 60,000-mile vehicle warranty, with electric-drive components covered for five years or 60,000 miles and the battery for eight years or 100,000 miles.

Inside, the Nissan Leaf pairs a clean, uncluttered cabin with technology that stays easy to reach. Engage models feature twin 12.3-inch displays, while Engage+, Advance and Evolve step up to twin 14.3-inch screens running NissanConnect with Google built-in, so Google Maps, Google Assistant and Google Play sit natively on the dashboard.

Zero-gravity front seats come as standard for support on long drives, and dual-zone automatic climate control keeps everyone comfortable. Move up the range, and the Leaf adds heated front seats and a heated steering wheel from Engage+, a dimming panoramic roof and head-up display from Advance, and eight-way electrically adjustable front seats with driver massage on Evolve.

Materials climb with each grade too, from hard-wearing black fabric on Engage to part synthetic-leather trim on Advance and full synthetic-leather seats on Evolve. Ambient lighting expands from white accents on Engage+ to a 64-colour system across the dashboard and front doors on Advance and Evolve. Evolve also brings a nine-speaker Bose Premium Sound System with a dedicated headrest speaker for the driver.

There is space to match, with up to 437 litres of boot capacity that rises to up to 1,052 litres with the rear seats folded, plus two ISOFIX points on the outer rear seats.

The Nissan Leaf's exterior is engineered as much for efficiency as for presence. Its fastback SUV silhouette is the most aerodynamic Leaf yet, with a drag coefficient of up to 0.25 achieved through sculpted surfaces, flush front door handles and a fully covered underfloor.

Lighting is distinctly Nissan, with a slim front light bar and LED signatures at both ends. Advance and Evolve add 3D rear lamps and an illuminated Nissan badge up front, along with LED headlights that include adaptive, glare-free high beam.

Wheels scale with the range. Engage rides on 18-inch alloys, Engage+ and Advance move to 18-inch diamond-cut alloys, and Evolve tops the line-up with 19-inch aero-cover alloys. Advance and above also gain black roof rails and rear privacy glass for a more finished stance.

Colour choice is broad, with solid, metallic and two-tone black-roof finishes across the range. Fuji Sunset Red is the launch finish on Engage, Engage+ and Advance, while two-tone Luminous Teal and Sukumo Blue are reserved for Advance and Evolve. Auto-folding door mirrors arrive from Engage+ upward, and an electric-powered tailgate features on Advance and Evolve.

Nissan Leaf Range, Charging and Performance

The Nissan Leaf is offered with two battery and motor combinations, both driving the front wheels through a single-speed automatic. The 52kWh Leaf produces 130kW with 345Nm of torque and reaches 62mph in 8.4 seconds, while the 75kWh version steps up to 160kW and 355Nm for a 7.6-second sprint in Sport mode.

Range is where the Leaf makes its case. The 52kWh battery covers up to 280 miles on the WLTP combined cycle, and the 75kWh extends that to up to 387 miles, with city-cycle figures reaching up to 371 and 498 miles respectively.

Rapid charging is quick on both. Every Leaf accepts up to 11kW AC charging and charges from 10 to 80% in around 35 minutes on DC power, drawing up to 105kW on the 52kWh and up to 150kW on the 75kWh. On a rapid charger the 75kWh recovers up to 273 miles in 30 minutes.

The Leaf also gives back. Vehicle-to-Load output of up to 3.1kW powers external devices from the battery, and the Leaf is Vehicle-to-Grid ready when paired with a compatible Nissan home charger. The table below sets out the key battery, range and charging figures.
