April Shortlists for the PFA Vertu Motors Fans' Player of the Month Awards

The nominations for the PFA Vertu Motors Fans' Player of the Month Awards for April have been finalised.

Six players from each of the top five professional leagues in England have been shortlisted for their exceptional performances last month. You now have the power to decide who takes the title...

Premier League

Nominees: Gabriel Jesus, Manchester City; Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City; Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United; Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle United; James Ward-Prowse, Southampton; Heung-Min Son, Tottenham Hotspur.

Premier League April Nominees

Gabriel Jesus had a memorable month for City, scoring four goals and getting an assist in the match against Watford. He also scored an important goal against title rivals Liverpool and bagged a goal against Leeds United. De Bruyne had an action-packed April, scoring against Burnley and Liverpool and getting assists against Brighton and Watford. In a tough month off the pitch, Ronaldo still managed to lead by example for Man United on the pitch, scoring five times – including a hat-trick against Norwich. Although Newcastle’s Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes wasn’t initially signed as a goalscorer, he proved valuable in the Magpies' climb up the table with a match-winning brace against Leicester, an assist against Crystal Palace and a goal away at Norwich. Ward-Prowse’s brilliant season continued with four goal contributions last month, netting two direct free kicks, scoring a cracking long ranger and bagging an assist. Son scored a hat-trick during Tottenham’s demolition of Villa, and also scored and assisted during a win against Newcastle United.

Women’s Super League

Nominees: Beth Mead, Arsenal; Bethany England, Chelsea; Erin Cuthbert, Chelsea; Sam Kerr, Chelsea; Khadija Shaw, Manchester City; Lauren Hemp, Manchester City.

WSL April Nominees

Beth Mead scored twice in two Arsenal wins last month and also became the Women’s Super League all-time top goal assister, overtaking former WSL superstar Karen Carney. England added another four goals to her season’s tally in three Chelsea wins last month. Erin Cuthbert had a fantastic month at the helm of Chelsea’s midfield, passing well and playing with enormous, determined energy. Sam Kerr proved instrumental for Chelsea in April, scoring four times in total including an important winner in their victory over Tottenham. Khadija Shaw scored five goals – including four in one match for Manchester City. Lauren Hemp always plays with exceptional consistency - and April was no different, with the winger scoring twice and getting an assist.

EFL Championship

Nominees: Dominic Solanke, Bournemouth; Aleksandar Mitrovic, Fulham; Harry Wilson, Fulham; Brennan Johnson, Nottingham Forest; Sam Surridge, Nottingham Forest; Joel Piroe, Swansea City.

Championship April Nominees

The Cherrie’s leading striker Solanke scored six times in April and provided an assist. Fulham’s prolific goalscorer Mitrovic added another six goals to his tally – taking his total to over 40 for the season! Harry Wilson also proved vital for Fulham last month, with six assists. Brennan Johnson had a dazzling month for Nottingham Forest, with four assists and four goals. Forest’s January signing Surridge proved his worth with six goals in April as the club continued their promotion push. Swansea’s Dutch superstar Piroe scored seven times and provided two assists in a busy month for the forward.

EFL League 1

Nominees: Scott Twine, MK Dons; George Hirst, Portsmouth; Lee Gregory, Sheffield Wednesday; Nathan Broadhead, Sunderland; Will Keane, Wigan Athletic; Sam Vokes, Wycombe Wanderers.

League 1 April Nominees

Scott Twine had a superb month, scoring six times and providing three assists for MK Dons. Although Portsmouth missed out on a play-off spot, George Hirst played fantastically for them in April, with five goals and an assist. Lee Gregory was instrumental in Sheffield Wednesday’s play-off push, scoring seven times as they cemented their spot. Sunderland’s Nathan Broadhead who is on loan from Everton played a big part in The Black Cat’s play-off berth with five goals across the month. Keane had a great month for Wigan, netting seven times and getting two assists. Sam Vokes helped Wycombe claim their play-off spot with four goals and two assists in an important month for the club.

EFL League 2

Nominees: Elliot Anderson, Bristol Rovers; Stephen McLaughlin, Mansfield Town; Sam Hoskins, Northampton Town; Jamie Proctor, Port Vale; Jack Payne, Swindon Town; Kane Hemmings, Tranmere Rovers.

League 2 April Nominees

Elliot Anderson has been an excellent loan signing for Rovers since joining from Newcastle in April, claiming two goals and an assist in a great month for the club. Stephen McLaughlin was on form for the Stags, helping to keep four clean sheets and also providing two assists and a goal. Northampton’s star winger Sam Hoskins claimed four assists and two goals in a fantastic month. Port Vale continued their promotion push with the help of Jamie Proctor who scored four times for the Valiants. Jack Payne had a superb month for the Robins – with four assists and a goal. Tranmere’s veteran striker Kane Hemmings enjoyed a fine month scoring three times and getting two assists.
