Vauxhall has confirmed its all-new electric Vauxhall Corsa GSE hot hatch will go on sale priced from £32,995, complete with a £1,500 discount via the Electric Car Grant.
A return to the sporty hatchback arena for Vauxhall, the GSE can unleash a whopping 276bhp and 345Nm from its 54kWh battery for a 0-62mph sprint of just 5.5secs.
A new flagship trim for the Vauxhall Corsa, which ranks as the UK’s most popular hatchback in the sales charts, the GSE will rival the new Cupra Raval VZ, Alpine A290 and the sister Peugeot E-208 GTI with which it shares its underpinnings.
As well as being quick off the mark, the Corsa GSE will still offer impressive frugality with up to 232-miles of range on top of its zero emissions CO2 output, while recharging using a fast charger will go from 0-80% in approximately 30-minutes.
The input of a new, more powerful battery set-up has also given Vauxhall the opportunity to give the recognisable Corsa design a significant update to hint at what lies beneath.
Though more understated than hot Vauxhall hatchbacks of old – such as the VXR, GTE and SRI – the GSE gets unique 18-inch alloy wheels, flared wheelarches, more prominent bumpers and striking grey/black two-tone detailing.
Look closely and you’ll also see flashes of yellow, a nod to the racing colours of Opel (the name for Vauxhall models on the European continent) which will be prominent when the manufacturer enters the all-electric FIA Formula E World Championship next season.
Inside you’ll find neon-tartan bucket seats – which will be familiar to anyone who has ever sat in a Nova GTE – as well as Alcantara upholstery and a unique steering wheel.
Vauxhall has also completed some fettling under the skin with the Corsa GSE getting bigger brakes, complete with four-piston Alcon calipers dressed in Fluro-yellow, plus a Torsen mechanical limit-slip differential. The GSE is also 9mm lower than the standard car and has stiffer suspension.
Excitingly, not only is the Corsa GSE more powerful than its direct rivals, at £32,995 it is also great value proposition.
This price includes a £1,500 discount motivated by its inclusion in the UK government’s ECG.
Orders for the Vauxhall Corsa GSE open at Vertu Vauxhall dealerships in September, with the first deliveries due this winter.
