Vauxhall has taken a significant step towards a new era with unveiling of a revised, more modern-looking logo that will debut on a forthcoming concept car previewing the next generation Astra.
The ‘more streamlined, contemporary look’ has been styled to complement the next evolution of Vauxhall’s Bold and Pure design language, the latest chapter of which will be unveiled to the world at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.
The most significant change to the design is the removal of the ‘V’ in the flag fluttering alongside the erstwhile graphic of the iconic Griffin.
The ‘V’ motif was for a time an important symbol of the Vauxhall range, demonstrated by the era in which all models featured a chrome ‘V’ shape on the front grille.
While the famous Griffin – a feature of the logo since 1915 - is staying put, the new design is joined by a fresh, simpler font for the Vauxhall lettering in line with what has been seen on certain models.
The new logo will only be seen on UK models, the result of it being the only market where the ‘Vauxhall’ nameplate is used. The brand is otherwise known as Opel in other markets, including Ireland and mainland Europe.
New Logo to Debut on Astra-Previewing STX Concept
One of the reasons for the new, cleaner-looking logo is to complement Vauxhall’s design language and experimentation of illuminated badges at the front and rear of recent models, such as the Grandland and Astra.
With this in mind, Vauxhall/Opel has released more details about the model that will be used to debut the logo – the STX Concept.
Set to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October, the STX Concept is expected to provide a clear insight into the future of one of Vauxhall’s long-running nameplates, the Astra.
Significantly, the concept is expected to take the form of an ‘aero-efficient estate’, indicating the next Astra could be offered in its most practical form only, rather than a conventional hatchback.
Unveiling new pictures of the Vauxhall STX Concept, while the images reveal precious little about how the car will look on the stand when it debuts, the firm says it will preview the ‘next evolution of the Vauxhall Vizor (design language) and the brand’s vision for the future of the estate car’.
Eurig Druce, Vauxhall Managing Director & Stellantis UK Group Managing Director, said: “We were pioneers of the estate in the UK as early as the 1950s. With the STX Concept, we want to show Vauxhall’s vision for the future of this body style and introduce the next step of our Bold and Pure design philosophy. We will be revealing more details soon – so stay tuned.”
