BYD have unleashed their new seven-seat flagship, the Atto 8, with headline-grabbing Flash charging and up to 405 miles of WLTP range.

Sitting at the top of their range size-wise, this ambitious, all-electric SUV will be a seven-seater – built for families who want space, comfort and range without compromises.

Flash charging is making its European debut with the Atto 8 – capable of taking the sizeable 115kWh battery pack from 10 to 70% charge in just five minutes, and 10 to 97% in nine.

The range is equally impressive; the Design model offers up to 405 WLTP miles, and if you’re more focused on performance, the Excellence all-wheel-drive versions add a second motor for an unbelievable 775PS, shooting from 0-62mph in only 4.6 seconds, while still returning up to 374 miles of WLTP range.

On the outside, the Atto 8’s looks reflect the current design language of the manufacturer, with the front featuring ultra-slim integrated daytime running lights and matrix-LED headlights. Sharp creases, muscular curves and darkened C-pillars accentuate the car’s visual length and strong confidence – with “infinity knot” taillights and an illuminated central logo at the rear, the Atto 8 is assertively a BYD.

Inside, the Atto 8 features a panoramic glass roof, allowing plenty of natural light into the cabin. Soft-touch materials, including suede leather, are placed in key areas, and front seats feature heating, ventilation and massage functions, replicated in the outer seats of the middle row – all the seats, however, are upholstered in genuine leather.

All versions of the Atto 8 feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 26-inch widescreen heads-up display and a 15.6-inch central infotainment touchscreen that brings Google built-in for navigation, assistance and Google Play apps. On the Design version, you have a 10-speaker system for audio, and with Excellence, you get a 21-speaker DiSound audio system, as well as a front refrigerator to keep anything from snacks to shopping cooled down to -6 degrees or warmed up to 60 degrees.

You get up to 270 litres of boot space to make use of, even with all three rows of seats up – with the middle and rear rows flat, this expands to a cavernous 1,960 litres of space, with a further 136-litre front boot for cable storage and anything else you want to separate from the boot.

Like other new models revealed at the Paris Motor Show over the weekend, there is no confirmed price as of yet. In the meantime, you can view all of the current available BYD models at Vertu.
