Inside, the new T-Roc builds its cabin around a 12.9-inch floating touchscreen, standard on every trim - the single biggest change over the old car, where equivalent screens were reserved for higher grades. At 4,372mm long on a 2,629mm wheelbase, the new VW T-Roc is 12cm longer than the car it replaces. It wears the extra length openly, with a streamlined front section, distinctive bumpers and a full-width LED light signature. That signature does a disproportionate share of the work for how recognisable the car is from a distance, with an optional illuminated VW badge building on the same idea at night.

Wheel choice walks up the range cleanly. Life sits on 17" 'Lima' black diamond-turned alloy wheels. Match and Style wear 18" 'Torino' silver alloy wheels, and R-Line gets 18" 'Coventry' black diamond-turned alloy wheels paired with 'R-Line' body-coloured bumpers and silver roof rails.

Eleven exterior finishes are offered: Pure White, Grenadilla Black, Celestial Blue, Wolf Grey, Flame Red and Canary Yellow, with all except Grenadilla also offered in a two-tone black-roof version. Of the eleven, Canary Yellow with the black roof arguably makes the strongest case - it leans into the T-Roc's personality in a way the darker shades don't quite match. A tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof is optional range-wide.
