Technically speaking, the Hyundai INSTER doesn’t have the biggest boot for a city car, at least not in the default guise, anyway.
That prize goes to both the BYD Dolphin Surf and Dacia Spring, which tie for the largest boot in the city car class at 308-litres - which is impressive for cars that measure less than four-metres…
For the purpose of this ranking, however, we’re happy to settle for the ‘standard’ 280-litres provided by the INSTER on the strength of the well-thought-out practical solutions that accompany it.

You don’t have to spend a long time with the new CUPRA Raval to understand its appeal, whether it’s the striking design you’re drawn to, or the premium interior or the taut, sporty driving experience.
And yet, on top of all that, the Raval – which reaches Vertu CUPRA showrooms imminently - also ranks among the most practical options in the supermini class.
Indeed, thanks to a bit of packaging wizardry with the battery, opening the bootlid of the Raval reveals a capacious 441-litre boot that belies the athletic, compact impression it makes when you first get a glimpse of it.

MG has made a habit of blurring the lines between traditional automotive segments in recent years, not least because its value-oriented approach often means it significantly undercuts similarly sized rivals on price too.
The MG4 Urban – a recent addition to the British origin brand’s line-up – is no exception, nestling somewhere between the conventional hatchback and family car classes.

There’s no denying it, the conventional estate has become something of a rarity on today’s roads as traditional no-nonsense load luggers are phased out in favour of far trendier SUVs.
So, kudos then to Volkswagen for not only committing to developing an entirely new estate model with the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, but making it an electric estate at that.
Moreover, the German firm has gone to a lot of effort to maximise ID.7 Tourer’s qualities as a refined, spacious load lugger that will travel over 360-miles in electric range.
For one, the 605-litre boot is enormous enough to swallow the outcome of a spending spree in B&Q, while leaving enough cabin room for five adults to travel very comfortably.
Better yet, that big boot is well disguised by the ID.7 Tourer’s svelte, low-slung looks, while the decadent interior is on a par with esteemed German rivals like the BMW i5 and Mercedes EQE

Best Small Electric SUV with a Big Boot

If you ever needed proof that an electric car – with its battery nestled neatly at the bottom of the chassis – will result in more cabin space versus an ICE-equipped model with its oily bits at the front of the car, take a look at the Ford Puma Gen-E.
While the current trend is for manufacturers to develop a new electric car from scratch with its own identity, Ford has instead taken its wildly popular Puma SUV and remixed it with an electric powertrain.

Not only is that enough to consume all manner of luggage, shopping and DIY materials, it’s big enough to make any passengers in the rear appear as though they’re on the horizon.
