CUPRA takes its name from a fusion of 'Cup' and 'Racing', tracing back to the motorsport division SEAT once used to build its competition cars. That racing pedigree has grown into a car brand of its own, engineered and designed at CUPRA's Barcelona headquarters as part of the Volkswagen Group. Three pillars define every model that follows: stimulating style, electrifying performance and an unconventional, challenger spirit.
Six models now carry that identity across the CUPRA UK range: Born, Raval, Formentor, Leon, Tavascan and Terramar. Between them, they span three distinct routes into CUPRA ownership. Born, Raval and Tavascan run on battery power alone, led by CUPRA's permanent magnet synchronous motors, with a dual-motor setup on the range-topping Tavascan VZ. All three are backed by an 8-year/100,000-mile EV battery warranty against defects and degradation below 70%. Formentor, Leon and Terramar open with efficient TSI and eTSI petrol engines, then step up to CUPRA's e-HYBRID plug-in hybrid technology for drivers who want electric-only trips with a full tank in reserve.
At Vertu, our colleagues can talk you through the new CUPRA range and help match a model, powertrain and trim to your budget and daily drive.
CUPRA's UK range splits into three ways of driving: fully electric, efficient TSI or eTSI petrol, and e-HYBRID plug-in hybrid, each suited to a different kind of journey.
The three CUPRA EV models, Born, Raval and Tavascan, share permanent magnet synchronous motors, zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving and a rapid-charging architecture built for daily use. You get up to 389 miles of WLTP range on the Born's 79kWh battery. The range-topping VZ reaches 0-62mph in 5.6 seconds thanks to 326PS and 545Nm of torque, making it the quickest Born in the line-up. In the Raval, you get agile city driving, with the 52kWh battery returning up to 277 miles WLTP and a 7.1-second sprint to 62mph. Tavascan, the boldest CUPRA electric SUV in the range, extends furthest: up to 346 miles WLTP on the 77kWh RWD battery. A 340PS AWD VZ variant reaches 62mph in 5.5 seconds, making it the quickest car in the CUPRA electric range.
Formentor, Leon and Terramar all open with a 1.5-litre TSI or eTSI turbocharged petrol engine producing 150PS, available with a manual or DSG-automatic gearbox depending on model. It's a familiar, no-plug-in way into the CUPRA range. From there, the line-up steps up through 2.0-litre TSI engines reaching as much as 333PS on the Leon Sportstourer's 4Drive all-wheel-drive variant, which covers 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds.
CUPRA's e-HYBRID system pairs a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with an electric motor and a 25.8kWh battery, shared across Formentor, Leon and Terramar. Depending on model and trim, it delivers between 69 and 81 miles of WLTP electric-only range, with a 50kW DC rapid charge taking the battery from 10 to 80% in around 26 minutes. Once the battery depletes, the petrol engine takes over, so a longer trip is never a concern. Company car drivers benefit too: e-HYBRID models can fall into a 7% Benefit-in-Kind band, and the CUPRA CONNECT app lets you schedule charging and pre-condition the cabin remotely.
For drivers chasing more pace, CUPRA's 4Drive all-wheel-drive system and VZ performance trims mark out the sportiest end of the range, giving you real 4x4 traction alongside the extra power. The Formentor VZ5 leads the line-up with a 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine producing 390PS, 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds and CUPRA's torque-splitting 4Drive as standard. The Born VZ, Leon 4Drive Sportstourer and Terramar VZ each bring their own take on that performance formula, whether through electric power, petrol 4Drive traction or a plug-in hybrid VZ tune.
Every CUPRA in the range shares CUPRA CONNECT and a consistent digital cockpit, then adds further technology as you move up the trim ladder.
A 12.9-inch central touchscreen anchors the cabin across Born, Raval, Formentor, Leon and Terramar, paired with a digital cockpit display on each. Tavascan steps up to a 15-inch navigation display alongside its own 10.25-inch cockpit. CUPRA CONNECT comes fitted for ten years on the Born, covering emergency and breakdown calls, service scheduling and, on the e-HYBRID range, remote climate pre-conditioning through the same app.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto link your phone in every model, and Tavascan adds ChatGPT-powered voice control on top of its standard voice assistant. Ambient lighting, heated seats and a heated steering wheel appear from early trims across the range, with Sennheiser audio systems, named IMMERSIVE on Formentor, Leon and Terramar and AMBEO on Raval, reserved for higher trims. VZ models add their own signature touches, including CUP bucket seats and copper-toned badging that set the performance trims apart at a glance.
Driver assistance is consistent too: Travel Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist and Intelligent Park Assist all feature across the CUPRA line-up. Travel Assist 3.0 and a four-camera top-view system are reserved for higher trims and VZ variants.

Yes. CUPRA currently offers three fully electric models in the UK: Born, Raval and Tavascan. WLTP ranges span from up to 277 miles on the Raval's 52kWh battery to up to 389 miles on the Born's 79kWh battery, all backed by an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty.
Each produces zero tailpipe emissions whilst driving, using a permanent magnet synchronous motor, and supports DC rapid charging that takes the fastest models from 10 to 80% in around 24 to 29 minutes. Browse our CUPRA electric car stock for more details.
Yes, CUPRA hybrid options come in two forms. Formentor, Leon and Terramar offer an eTSI mild-hybrid petrol option for everyday efficiency. All three also offer CUPRA's e-HYBRID plug-in hybrid, which adds a 25.8kWh battery for up to 81 miles of WLTP electric-only range before the petrol engine takes over.
The e-HYBRID needs plugging in to unlock its electric range, while eTSI recharges only through the engine and regenerative braking as you drive. Browse our CUPRA hybrid car stock for more details.
Yes. Many CUPRA models are available through the Motability Scheme at Vertu. You can exchange all or part of a qualifying mobility allowance to lease a new CUPRA with fixed monthly costs covering servicing, repairs, tax and insurance for up to three named drivers.
Find out more about what the Motability Scheme covers, browse CUPRA Motability offers, or explore the scheme's electric and hybrid car options.
CUPRA sits above mainstream volume brands but below traditional luxury marques, positioned as a premium performance brand within the Volkswagen Group. Trim-level technology such as Sennheiser audio, CUP bucket seats and Matrix LED headlights bring a premium feel without moving into luxury-segment territory.
That positioning is deliberate: CUPRA's own brand pillars centre on performance and design rather than the traditional cues of a luxury marque.
CUPRA's electric range stands out for offering real variety within one brand: a compact hatchback (Raval), a hot-hatch-styled EV (Born) and an SUV coupe (Tavascan). WLTP ranges reach up to 389 miles, with DC rapid charging up to 183kW.
Many rival electric ranges specialise in a single body style. CUPRA's ability to offer sporty electric motoring across three distinct shapes, all backed by the same 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty, is a clear point of difference.
Vertu offers PCP, HP and PCH finance on every new CUPRA. PCP combines a deposit with monthly payments and a final optional payment, HP spreads the full cost with no balloon payment, and PCH is a fixed-cost lease with no ownership option at the end.
Read more about how car finance works, or explore PCP, HP and PCH in detail to find the right fit for your budget.
CUPRA cars are made by CUPRA, a Spanish performance brand designed and engineered at its Barcelona headquarters. CUPRA grew out of SEAT's motorsport division and now operates as its own marque within the Volkswagen Group, alongside SEAT, Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi.
That Volkswagen Group membership means CUPRA shares proven platforms and engineering with some of Europe's most established manufacturers.
CUPRA's name comes from a fusion of Cup' and Racing', reflecting the brand's roots in SEAT's motorsport division. It signals CUPRA's identity as a performance-focused challenger brand, built around competition-bred engineering from day one.
That motorsport link still shapes the range today, from the CUP bucket seats fitted to VZ models to the torque-splitting 4Drive system on the range-topping Formentor VZ5.
Every new CUPRA comes with a 5-year/90,000-mile manufacturer warranty as standard. Born, Raval and Tavascan add a separate 8-year/100,000-mile warranty on the EV battery, covering defects and degradation below 70% capacity, giving longer-term reassurance on the most expensive component of an electric car.
Formentor, Leon and Terramar's e-HYBRID batteries are covered under the standard 5-year/90,000-mile warranty, with no separate battery-specific term stated in current CUPRA documentation.
Yes. The CUPRA Leon is available as a five-door hatchback or as the Leon Sportstourer, CUPRA's estate body style, across the same range of petrol, eTSI and e-HYBRID plug-in hybrid powertrains. That gives buyers a choice between hatchback agility and estate-level practicality.
Both body styles share the same trim ladder, so the equipment and technology on offer stay consistent whichever shape you choose. Browse the CUPRA Leon range to see current hatchback and Sportstourer stock.
